407,000 cases approved for \u201cmixed anxiety and depression\u201d<\/a>, 62,000 for \u201canxiety disorders\u201d and 83,000 for ADHD.<\/p>\nWhile autism and hyperkinetic disorders, such as ADD or ADHD, are not considered mental health issues, but rather conditions related to brain development, The Daily Telegraph\u2019s analysis originally appeared to group the conditions with mental health claimants.<\/p>\n
Mental health conditions and such developmental conditions all fall under the same category claim within the DWP\u2019s quarterly released data.<\/p>\n
The figures come after the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) earlier this year found one in 10 of the country\u2019s 38 million working-age people is in receipt of some kind of health benefit.<\/p>\n
The data, collected from November\u2019s release of data, found that there were 3,943,677 million people aged between 16 and 64 who were claiming some form of payment for disability or sickness.<\/p>\n
The IFS said the figure has soared since 2019, the year before the pandemic hit, when the figure was 3.2 million.<\/p>\n

The Government was hoping to impose a more stringent disability criteria for PIP claimants to help fill a black hole in the Government\u2019s spending forecasts.<\/p>\n
But to placate rebel MPs, Chancellor Rachel Reeves was forced into a \u00a33bn U-turn on the Government\u2019s welfare bill.<\/p>\n
The changes will only affect new claimants, while those already on the benefit will continue to receive it.<\/p>\n
Following the climbdown Reeves\u00a0refused to rule out tax rises in the autumn budget, as she admitted the fallout of the welfare bill had been \u201cdamaging\u201d.<\/p>\n
The Chancellor told The Guardian that there would be \u201ccosts to what happened\u201d, as she faced questions about how she would cover a shortfall left by the Downing Street climbdown.<\/p>\n
The fallout threatens to cause lasting damage to morale in Labour ranks, with some MPs calling for a reset in relations between the parliamentary party and the leadership before fractures widen.<\/p>\n
Images of the Chancellor crying in the Commons on Wednesday also spooked the financial markets and led to questions about her future, though a Treasury spokesman said the tears were the result of a personal matter and Downing Street said she would remain in post.<\/p>\n
Speaking following the fallout, Reeves\u00a0said she had never considered resigning, adding: \u201cI didn\u2019t work that hard to then quit.\u201d<\/p>\n
She said she had gone to Prime Minister\u2019s Questions because she \u201cthought that was the right thing to do\u201d but that \u201cin retrospect, I probably wished I hadn\u2019t gone in\u2026 (on) a tough day in the office. It\u2019s been damaging.<\/p>\n
