{"id":241867,"date":"2025-07-06T05:02:10","date_gmt":"2025-07-06T05:02:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/241867\/"},"modified":"2025-07-06T05:02:10","modified_gmt":"2025-07-06T05:02:10","slug":"wales-future-generations-commissioner-to-speak-on-international-peace-at-llangollen-eisteddfod","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/241867\/","title":{"rendered":"Wales\u2019 Future Generations Commissioner to speak on international peace at Llangollen Eisteddfod"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Derek-Walker.jpg\" alt=\"Wrexham.com for people living in or visiting the Wrexham area\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt a time of unprecedented global tensions, Wales has a unique opportunity to champion the cause of international peace.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That is the powerful message Derek Walker, the Future Generations Commissioner for Wales, will have for an audience on the second day of this year\u2019s Llangollen International Eisteddfod.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\t\t           &#13;<br \/>\n\t\t         &#13;<br \/>\n\t\t&#13;<br \/>\n\t\t&#13;<br \/>\n\t\t&#13;<\/p>\n<p>He will deliver the Academi Heddwch Peace Lecture taking place on Wednesday July 9 at 1.15pm in the famous Llangollen Pavilion.<\/p>\n<p>The event coincides with two major milestones \u2013 the 10th anniversary of Wales\u2019s Well-being of Future Generations Act and the 80th anniversary of the United Nations.<\/p>\n<p>During his speech Derek Walker is expected to explore the role that Wales has played \u2014 and can continue to play \u2014 in promoting peace, sustainability, and international cooperation.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\t\t&#13;<\/p>\n<p>He will stress that at a time when conflict, inequality, and climate instability dominate headlines, there has never been a more important moment to reflect on and renew our commitment to peace.<\/p>\n<p>And he will share his thoughts on how we can build on the ambitious vision of Wales\u2019s seven well-being goals to become a global beacon for peace, ensuring a fairer and more sustainable world for generations to come.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWales was the first country in the world to legislate for the well-being of future generations, setting out a bold vision of a fairer, greener, and more peaceful world,\u201d explained Derek Walker.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs we mark this important anniversary, I look forward to reflecting on how Cymru can lead by example \u2014 championing peace not just in our communities, but internationally, for generations to come.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cProfessor Chris Adams, Eisteddfod Trustee with responsibility for heritage and peace, added: \u201cThe Llangollen Eisteddfod was founded in the at the end of World War II as an event where ordinary people from round the world could meet and get to know each other better, to understand each other\u2019s cultures, as a contribution to promoting better international relations. a.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHosting this conversation with Derek Walker not only honours our founding values, but challenges us to look forward \u2013 to help Wales become an exemplar of a society where peace, culture, and collaboration flourish together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This talk is also part of a wider programme of events including a Peace Tent throughout the week.<\/p>\n<p>The Peace Tent is a welcoming space for dialogue, reflection, and activism, bringing together voices from around the world to explore what peace means today.<\/p>\n<p>Featuring workshops and panel discussions, the tent celebrates the Eisteddfod\u2019s founding ethos of international understanding through culture and conversation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Spotted something?
