A Glasgow-based shipping firm linked to Russia\u2019s fleet of \u201cshadow tankers\u201d<\/a> could have contributed \u00a3127million to the Kremlin war machine, it is claimed.<\/p>\n Seapeak Maritime Ltd manages seven tankers which ferry liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Siberia to the rest of the world.<\/a><\/p>\n Pro-Ukraine campaigners have long urged UK ministers to shut the firm\u2019s activities which it\u2019s feared are bankrolling Russian president Vladimir Putin\u2019s<\/a> brutal three-year assault on its neighbour.<\/p>\n Now, anti-Russian fossil fuels group Razom We Stand has issued a new report estimating the shipping company may have paid \u00a3127million in corporate taxes to Russian<\/a> federal and state governments last year for its LNG cargoes.<\/p>\n That would be enough to cover the cost of 2700 Iranian Shahed drones or 45 Iskander-M type missiles which Russia\u2019s war machine has repeatedly used to terrorise and massacre Ukrainian<\/a> civilians.<\/p>\n Svitlana Romanko, executive director of Razom We Stand, said: \u201cIt is outrageous that a UK-registered company like Seapeak has played such a central role in financing Putin\u2019s<\/a> war machine, helping generate over \u00a3127million in taxes for the Russian state last year alone.<\/p>\n \u201cThat money is enough to pay for a couple thousand drones or dozens of Iskander missiles \u2013 weapons Russians use to kill civilians in Ukraine<\/a> on a daily basis.<\/p>\n \u201cWhile Ukrainian families are picking up the pieces under the rubble of Russian missile strikes, a British company is quietly still profiting from Russia\u2019s fossil fuels.<\/a><\/p>\n “British firms must not be allowed to profit from bloodstained gas \u2013 this research proves Seapeak\u2019s deep entanglement in Russia\u2019s war<\/a> economy.\u201d<\/p>\n Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022 with the LNG trade crucial in bringing billions into the Kremlin to pay for Putin\u2019s<\/a> \u201cspecial military operation\u201d which has killed thousands of people.<\/p>\n Get the latest news sent straight to your messages by joining our WhatsApp community today.<\/p>\n You’ll receive daily updates on breaking news as well as the top headlines across Scotland.<\/p>\n No one will be able to see who is signed up and no one can send messages except the Daily Record team.<\/p>\n All you have to do is click here if you’re on mobile<\/strong><\/a>, select ‘Join Community’ and you’re in!<\/p>\n If you’re on a desktop, simply scan the QR code above with your phone and click ‘Join Community’.<\/p>\n We also treat our community members to special offers, promotions, and adverts from us and our partners. Seapeak\u2019s work is technically legal but critics want the UK Government<\/a> to close what it says is a sanctions loophole.<\/p>\n Scottish Greens MSP<\/a> Ross Greer \u2013 who was sanctioned by Russia for his work in solidarity with Ukraine \u2013 said: \u201cIt\u2019s appalling that the UK Labour government refuses to shut Seapeak down. People in Glasgow are horrified when they learn a firm based here plays such a key role in keeping Russia\u2019s war economy going.”<\/p>\n Peter Cooper, secretary of the Ukraine Solidarity Campaign in Scotland, said: \u201cGlasgow-based<\/a> company Seapeak\u2019s shipping of \u00a33billion worth of Russian LNG, at an annual \u00a345m profit for its US owners, is being paid for by the death and injury of thousands of Ukrainian civilians.”<\/p>\n Activists will hold a peaceful protest outside Seapeak\u2019s Clydeside<\/a> offices this week, joined by campaigners in London and Vancouver, Canada, where the firm\u2019s global HQ is based.<\/p>\n We previously told of claims<\/a> Russia had planted FSB spies on Seapeak\u2019s super tankers, with Putin\u2019s operatives allegedly using intimidation to remove western crew.<\/p>\n![\"Putin](\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/1_putin.jpg\")
