data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"noopener\">similar EU restrictions<\/a> imposed on Chinese firms last month.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">In a notice on Sunday, the Ministry of Finance said that European Union companies without operations in China were excluded from government medical device contracts valued at more than 45 million yuan (US$6.3 million).<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Taking effect on Sunday, the restriction does not apply to EU-funded companies operating in China.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Non-EU companies taking part in such government tenders must not allocate more than half of the total contract value to importing medical devices from the EU, according to the finance ministry.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The Ministry of Commerce said the move was a last resort, after Beijing had \u201crepeatedly expressed through bilateral dialogues its willingness to resolve the differences through consultation and arrangements on government procurement\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDespite China\u2019s goodwill and sincerity, the EU has persisted in taking <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/economy\/global-economy\/article\/3315651\/china-slams-eu-ban-medical-device-sales-trade-dispute-list-grows-ahead-july-talks?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"noopener\">restrictive measures<\/a> and building new protectionist barriers,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cAs a result, China has no choice but to adopt reciprocal
