{"id":242710,"date":"2025-07-06T12:53:11","date_gmt":"2025-07-06T12:53:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/242710\/"},"modified":"2025-07-06T12:53:11","modified_gmt":"2025-07-06T12:53:11","slug":"british-and-irish-lions-chris-ashton-on-style-of-play-test-xv","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/242710\/","title":{"rendered":"British and Irish Lions: Chris Ashton on style of play &#038; Test XV"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">The British and Irish Lions would benefit from &#8220;stripping things back&#8221; and adopting a more simple style of play, says former England wing Chris Ashton.<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The Lions made nine unforced errors in their unconvincing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/rugby-union\/articles\/c86g4v3w5d5o\" class=\"ssrcss-k8mrr8-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">21-10 win against New South Wales Waratahs<\/a> on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Head coach Andy Farrell has yet to fully integrate the attacking system of complex pre-rehearsed moves that has been so successful with Ireland.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;It was rubbish. If that was their first game, OK,&#8221; Ashton told the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sounds\/play\/p0lndfdh\" class=\"ssrcss-k8mrr8-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BBC&#8217;s Rugby Union Weekly podcast,<\/a> after the 2025 Lions&#8217; fourth match.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Why have the Lions not stripped things back? There were so many changes and so many games, why not just go really simple against the Waratahs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Then it gives people more of a chance to show off their X-Factor and bring their personality to the game. Instead of all these intricate plays.
