Viktor Gyokeres’ move to the Premier League is finally seeming to get closer, just not to Manchester United<\/a>.<\/p>\n

United have been strongly linked with a move for the Sporting CP striker<\/a> but have faced stiff competition from Arsenal. The Gunners have been the favourites to land Gyokeres since it emerged that the 27-year-old preferred a move to the Emirates Stadium.<\/p>\n

Fall-out between the striker’s camp and Sporting CP has left the deal in the unknown<\/a> for the past few weeks. However, it appears that Mikel Arteta is set to bolster his forward line with Gyokeres following a breakthrough in talks.<\/p>\n

Advanced talks<\/p>\n

The news that Arsenal have been waiting for. The Athletic <\/a>have reported that Arsenal are now in advanced talks with Sporting CP to sign Gyokeres.<\/p>\n

It’s not thought that a deal is done but discussions over the transfer fee are underway. Personal terms aren’t thought to be a problem with a proposed five-year contract on the table.<\/p>\n

Deal structure<\/p>\n

CNN Portugal <\/a>have reported that Gyokeres won’t stay at Sporting CP with an agreement worth \u20ac75m (\u00a365m) close to being finalised between the two clubs.<\/p>\n

The report states that the Gunners will pay \u20ac65m (\u00a356.1m) upfront with a further potential \u20ac15m (\u00a312.9m) paid in future bonuses. Negotiations are thought to continue on Sunday with the details of how much Arsenal will pay Sporting in future.<\/p>\n

It’s also thought that ‘difficult objectives’ could translate into more money arriving at Sporting CP, including the possibility of Gyokeres winning the Ballon d’Or or the club winning the Champions League<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Gyokeres stance<\/p>\n

Prior to the bombshell that a deal was getting closer, it was reported that Gyokeres had been handed an extended break for his return to pre-season.<\/p>\n

Sporting CP players return to training on Monday but the striker is being allowed to return to Lisbon on Friday. However, there’s an understanding that the 27-year-old is threatening to go on striker to seal an exit.<\/p>\n
