Fans flocked to see Fontaines D.C. <\/a>perform at their biggest-ever gig but were reportedly shocked to be confronted by security over Palestinian<\/a> flags and clothing.<\/p>\n

One fan, of the 45,000-strong crowd, claimed he was asked to remove his Palestinian football top and \u2018put it in the bin\u2019 before entering London\u2019s Finsbury Park.<\/p>\n

Fontaines D.C. have been vocal in their pro-Palestine stance,<\/a> alongside their support acts from Saturday\u2019s gig such as Amyl and the Sniffers and Kneecap<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Kneecap\u2019s political statements<\/a> led to the Prime Minister attempting to\u00a0have them removed<\/a>\u00a0from the Glastonbury<\/a> lineup and the arrest of Mo Chara.<\/p>\n

For months, fans have been bringing flags and other red, black and green clothing to Fontaines D.C. gigs to show their support for the Free Palestine movement.<\/p>\n

However \u2014 in the wake of protest group Palestine Action<\/a> being proscribed as a terrorist organisation <\/a>by the government \u2014 security at the concert were reportedly confiscating these items.<\/p>\n

\u2018I was on the way into the Fontaines D.C. concert today in Finsbury Park and I was stopped three times by security saying this top was a political statement and that I was not allowed in,\u2019 shared Velvetshaggy on TikTok.<\/p>\n

He was wearing a Palestinian football top, with the country\u2019s name written in Arabic on the front. <\/p>\n

The gig-goer claimed that if he had been wearing an Irish or English football shirt, \u2018they would have allowed it in\u2019. <\/p>\n

He continued: \u2018At one point, they literally told me that I had to put it in the bin. I took my t-shirt off and was told \u201cyou have to put it in the bin or you\u2019re not allowed in\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u2018Obviously, I didn\u2019t do that. I said \u201cI\u2019m not gonna do that\u201d. They were like \u201cDo you know what it means?\u201d They asked me to translate and I told them what it said.\u2019<\/p>\n

He claimed the guards sent messages back and forth before eventually granting him entry, with his shirt still on.<\/p>\n

\u2018This is happening at a music festival that is known for being political,\u2019 the music fan added. \u2018We\u2019ve got Kneecap and Fontaines D.C. speaking today, and I [almost] wasn\u2019t allowed in with a literal football jersey of Palestine.\u2019<\/p>\n

Fans pointed out that Fontaines D.C. themselves sold a football jersey that featured a Palestinian flag with \u2018free Palestine\u2019 written in Irish, with proceeds going to Medical Aid in the country.<\/p>\n

Other fans shared their experiences in the comments, with one woman saying she hid her Kneecap merchandise out of fear of confiscation.<\/p>\n

\u2018I had an Irish balaclava, the same one made for dj provai, and I got told by a nice lady before I went through security that I couldn\u2019t take it in so to put it somewhere,\u2019 said thiccccmami. \u2018I managed to smuggle it in my bra\ud83e\udd72 it\u2019s literally Kneecap\u2019s merch.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018My friend got told when they were searching her bag that they were specifically looking for Palestine flags over anything else,\u2019 added 365.partygirlx.<\/p>\n

\u2018They were confiscating Palestine flags!!!! And told me I couldn\u2019t wear my \u201cdon\u2019t attack Iran badge\u201d!!! Insanity,\u2019 wrote rosieee4.<\/p>\n

However, it appears some people did get through security with their Palestinian clothing and flags. <\/p>\n

One commenter, bodakgypsc, claimed to have \u2018worked at the gig\u2019 and said: \u201870% of people were wearing this exact shirt and loads of people had Palestine flags.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018There was so much Palestine stuff at the gig today,\u2019 added harveyraoul. \u2018Who did they think was performing?! Disgrace.\u2019<\/p>\n

Fontaines D.C. also showed a \u2018Free Palestine\u2019 message on the screen and fans could be seen waving flags in the crowd on grainy livestreams.<\/p>\n

During the gig, ever-political Kneecap came out in front of a screen that read: \u2018Israel<\/a>\u00a0is committing genocide against the Palestinian people.\u2019<\/p>\n

Taking aim at Sir Keir Starmer,<\/a> they said: \u2018You know what\u2019s \u201cnot appropriate\u201d Keir?! Arming a genocide\u2026 [sic]\u2019.<\/p>\n

Throughout the night, various chants of \u2018Free, free Palestine\u2019 broke out in the crowd, encouraged by the artists.<\/p>\n

Also performing were Amyl and The Sniffers, who previously put out a statement defending Bob Vylan after their Glastonbury performance.<\/p>\n

The group wrote: \u2018The British media in a frenzy about Bob Vylan and Kneecap but artists all weekend at Glastonbury from pop to rock to rap to punk to DJs spoke up onstage and there were toned of flags on every streamed set.<\/p>\n

\u2018Trying to make it look like just a couple of isolated incidents and a couple of \u201cbad bands\u201d so it appears the public isn\u2019t as anti-genocide as it is, and trying to make it look like Bob and Kneecap are one-offs, instead of that the status quo has shifted majorly and that people are concerned and desperate for our governments to listen.\u2019<\/p>\n
