{"id":242921,"date":"2025-07-06T14:48:20","date_gmt":"2025-07-06T14:48:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/242921\/"},"modified":"2025-07-06T14:48:20","modified_gmt":"2025-07-06T14:48:20","slug":"three-positive-metrics-point-to-health-of-economy-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/242921\/","title":{"rendered":"Three positive metrics point to health of economy \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">It might be the calm before the storm, but the Irish economy remains on a positive growth trajectory despite the global uncertainty.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall\">This week, we got three bits of data testifying to the health of the economy. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall\">First, the IDA\u2019s half-year <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/business\/2025\/07\/02\/pace-of-ida-sponsored-investment-accelerates-despite-threat-of-us-tariffs\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/business\/2025\/07\/02\/pace-of-ida-sponsored-investment-accelerates-despite-threat-of-us-tariffs\/\">results <\/a>pointed to an increased flow of multinational investment into Ireland in the first half of 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall\">The agency said it supported 179 investments in the six months to June with the potential to create more than 10,000 jobs, up 37 per cent on the same period last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall\">This was followed on Thursday by the latest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/business\/2025\/07\/03\/public-finances-boosted-by-another-spike-in-corporate-tax-receipts\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/business\/2025\/07\/03\/public-finances-boosted-by-another-spike-in-corporate-tax-receipts\/\">exchequer returns<\/a> for June, detailing another spike in corporation tax.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall\">There had been concern that we might see a downturn in receipts from the business tax given the faltering global environment but, in the end, corporate tax generated \u20ac7.4 billion last month, which was \u20ac1.5 billion or 25 per cent up on the same month last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall\">June is the second most important month of the year for corporate tax \u2013 behind November \u2013 accounting for 20 per cent of full-year receipts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall\">Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe cautioned about the inherent volatility of the tax, while noting the Government was likely to generate another big budget surplus this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall\">And then on Friday we got figures from Dublin Airport operator DAA <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/business\/2025\/07\/04\/dublin-airport-passenger-cap-to-be-breached-this-year-says-daa\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/business\/2025\/07\/04\/dublin-airport-passenger-cap-to-be-breached-this-year-says-daa\/\">indicating <\/a>the capital\u2019s airport had experienced its busiest-ever June with more than 3.5 million passengers travelling through the hub.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall\">It said it would have to turn away four million passengers this year if it is to comply with the cap, which was imposed by An Bord Plean\u00e1la in 2007.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall\">Ahead of next week\u2019s EU-US trade talks deadline and the potential escalation of tariffs between Brussels and Washington, the Irish economy is purring.
