{"id":242970,"date":"2025-07-06T15:15:23","date_gmt":"2025-07-06T15:15:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/242970\/"},"modified":"2025-07-06T15:15:23","modified_gmt":"2025-07-06T15:15:23","slug":"london-to-be-hit-by-thunderstorms-ahead-of-possible-third-heatwave","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/242970\/","title":{"rendered":"London to be hit by thunderstorms ahead of possible third heatwave"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/london\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:London;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">London<\/a> is braced for heavy rainfall and lightning ahead of a potential third heatwave this month, as the Met Office issued a yellow thunderstorm warning for the capital.<\/p>\n<p>Temperatures are expected to remain stable, with highs of 21C today (Sunday) and overnight lows of 14C into Monday morning.<\/p>\n<p>However, rain is forecast throughout much of the day, intensifying overnight, with the heaviest downpours expected between 3am and 7am.<\/p>\n<p>The Met Office\u2019s yellow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/weather\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:weather;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">weather<\/a> warning remains in place until 7pm today. It states there is a \u201cgood chance driving conditions will be affected by spray, standing water and hail,\u201d which could lead to longer journey times by car and bus.<\/p>\n<p>The alert also warns of possible train delays, lightning strikes causing damage to buildings, and a risk of flooding in some areas.<\/p>\n<p>Meteorologist Jonathan Vautrey said: \u201cIt&#8217;s quite muggy out there for some of us to kick off this second half of the weekend, reasonably damp and cloudy as well because low pressure is in charge throughout much of today.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are a few weather fronts around and we&#8217;ve particularly got our eyes on this one moving across England and Wales first thing that could start to provide some quite intense downpours of rain&#8230; that will generally head south and eastwards and break into showers as we head throughout the day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome of those could turn thundery with hail and quite intense downpours of rain, so it&#8217;s worth taking care across eastern England today&#8230; There&#8217;s a touch more warmth in the south, so 23C, 24C is possible here.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose showers will continue to push their way southwards as we move into the evening and overnight period, the wind intensifying a bit through the north channel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith that north-westerly wind starting to filter in some fresher conditions, tonight should be a touch more comfortable for sleeping in many places, temperatures in towns and cities dropping back to 12 to 14C.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere will be a touch of early morning rain across areas of southern England and parts of Wales, and showers will tend to linger around North Sea coasts tomorrow and some further around north-western areas of Scotland.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"London is braced for heavy rainfall and lightning ahead of a potential third heatwave this month, as the&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":242971,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[7757],"tags":[748,393,4884,94437,257,1142,94438,94436,45033,16,15,94435],"class_list":{"0":"post-242970","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-london","8":"tag-britain","9":"tag-england","10":"tag-great-britain","11":"tag-heavy-rainfall","12":"tag-london","13":"tag-met-office","14":"tag-monday-morning","15":"tag-overnight-lows","16":"tag-thunderstorm-warning","17":"tag-uk","18":"tag-united-kingdom","19":"tag-weather-fronts"},"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@uk\/114806949414200094","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/242970","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=242970"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/242970\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/242971"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=242970"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=242970"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=242970"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
