Whilst Jonas Vingegaard<\/a>‘s quest for a 3rd Maillot Jaune has just begun at the 2025 Tour de France<\/a>, the Dane’s wife Trine has caused quite a stir back home in Denmark by sensationally slamming Vingegaard’s bosses at Team Visma <\/a>| Lease a Bike.<\/p>\n

Vingegaard has long been known as a family man, with his wife and two young children a very important factor in his more limited cycling calendar than some of his rivals. Nevertheless, according to Trine, Visma are pushing Vingegaard too hard and as she puts it herself, forgetting about the human behind the rider.<\/p>\n

\u201cKnowing Jonas as I do, I\u2019d say the team (Visma, ed.) is pushing him too far now. I\u2019m afraid he\u2019s burning the candle at both ends,” Trine Vingegaard Hansen tells Politiken in a blockbuster interview<\/a>. “I think people sometimes forget the human being behind the athlete \u2013 and how to get the best out of him. It could all backfire.\u201d<\/p>\n

Whilst Vingegaard may have a more limited calendar than the likes of Tadej Pogacar and Remco Evenepoel, who combine their Grand Tour goals with a Spring Classics campaign, Trine explains how her husband is still often away from home, sent by Visma to train at altitude, away from his young family. \u201cJonas doesn\u2019t recharge on another three-week altitude camp with the team,” she stresses. “He needs to be at home in Denmark, with us, to feel truly himself.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s deeply attached to his routines. Sometimes he needs to reset in the calmest surroundings possible, just with his family,” Trine adds. “That\u2019s a huge part of who he is and why he\u2019s successful.\u201d<\/p>\n

And sometimes, even when Vingegaard is at home with Trine and the family, Visma still manage to cause a stir in the household. \u201cAt one point, we decided to renovate the house together,” recalls the two-time Tour de France winner’s wife. “Jonas realised he could rip out a kitchen, install a new one and lay down wooden flooring. The team wasn\u2019t too pleased about that.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a separate, and equally eye-opening interview with Jyllands-Posten<\/a>, Trine Vingegaard Hansen’s criticism of her husband’s team and their handling of the rider continues. She recalls one moment in particular that caused her fury when Vingegaard abandoned Paris-Nice through a concussion. \u201cEveryone on the team knows we \u2013 his family \u2013 only heard about it through the television. It\u2019s just bad form not to send a message to let us know he\u2019s okay. I simply can\u2019t understand it,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith two children, he does feel he\u2019s missing out on life at home.
