Former U.S. president Joe Biden<\/a>, in a lengthy address<\/a> (via CBS) at a conference in California on Wednesday night, said some of his most significant achievements in office are \u201cchanging so rapidly\u201d under the current administration that some European leaders have turned to him for advice.<\/p>\n

According to The Wall Street Journal <\/a>(WSJ), without ever mentioning President Donald Trump<\/a> by name, Biden spoke for more than an hour to thousands of human resources experts invited by the HR trade group SHRM to a gathering in San Diego about the risks of the U.S.\u2019 move toward isolationism and the dangers of abandoning his administration\u2019s efforts to strengthen the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) alliance.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe strengthened NATO<\/a> in a significant way,\u201d he told the audience on Wednesday, adding that now, he is \u201cgetting calls \u2026 from a number of European leaders asking me to get engaged.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not, but I\u2019m giving advice,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n

Both Finland and Sweden joined NATO while Biden was in office, largely in response to Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Since then, the U.S. and other NATO members have supplied the war-torn country with billions of dollars in aid and ammunition.<\/p>\n

But Trump has been critical of other NATO members\u2019 military spending, and left last month\u2019s G7 summit<\/a> in Kananaskis, Alta., early, despite saying the alliance was \u201cnot a rip-off<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

The White House responded to Biden\u2019s remarks by criticizing his foreign policy, telling the WSJ that it left \u201cAmerica weaker than ever before.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThanks to President Trump, NATO allies have made a historic 5 per cent defence spending pledge, Iran\u2019s nuclear capabilities are obliterated, and our country\u2019s standing on the world stage is restored,\u201d Anna Kelly, a White House spokesperson, said.<\/p>\n
