One Sheffield Wednesday ace is set for a cut-price move away from Hillsborough, something that West Brom should be all over.<\/strong><\/p>\n

West Brom appointed Ryan Mason<\/a> as head coach to replace Tony Mowbray ahead of the 2025\/26 Championship season.<\/p>\n

There will be an expectation that West Brom<\/a> can improve upon the fairly disappointing 2024\/25 campaign that saw the Baggies finish 9th after a poor run towards the end demolished their chances of the play-offs.<\/p>\n

As a result, recruitment is of utmost importance to ensure that Mason\u2019s squad is up to scratch to match the club\u2019s ambitions this season. <\/p>\n

West Brom are set to sign Aune Heggebo<\/a> as they look to add a goalscoring threat to their ranks. As for departures, Mikey Johnston looks set to join Brazilian side Flamengo<\/a>, someone who Mason will want to make sure is adequately replaced \u2013 and there is an obvious option that the Baggies should turn towards.<\/p>\n

Mikey Johnston\u2019s move to Brazil looks set to hand West Brom \u00a35million in return, which Ryan Mason will be keen for the club to reinvest into his squad.<\/p>\n

In terms of direct replacements for Johnston, it makes sense for West Brom to turn attention to fleet-footed Sheffield Wednesday winger Djeidi Gassama.<\/p>\n

French attacker Gassama enjoyed a solid 2024\/25 Championship campaign playing under Danny Rohl, where he offered a consistent threat on the flanks.<\/p>\n

After two seasons in the Championship, Gassama has always shown his exceptional dribbling and low centre of gravity, making him incredibly difficult to battle off the ball. But his instincts in front of goal have developed threefold, and at the age of 21, he still has a high ceiling that has yet to be reached.<\/p>\n

Djeidi Gassama appears to be a brilliant option for West Brom to replace Mikey Johnston for, especially given that he is available on a cut-price deal. Amid Sheffield Wednesday\u2019s financial crisis, which has seen the Owls under Dejphon Chansiri unable to pay a selection of players and staff, it looks likely that the Thai owner would sell for a cut-price deal to West Brom.<\/p>\n

The Gassama deal makes sense for West Brom, especially given the efficiency it would show from the club of plugging the gap left by Johnston\u2019s likely departure, which should be the priority for the club in this moment.<\/p>\n
