A woman left a 16-year-old boy needing life-saving surgery after a brutal gin bottle attack<\/a>.<\/p>\n Paula Macaulay struck <\/a>the teenager on the neck during the assault in Glasgow <\/a>city centre in August 2023. The 42-year-old was found with part of the broken bottle as well as glass fragments on her clothes when she was later held by police.<\/p>\n Macaulay had been due to stand trial at the High Court in Glasgow<\/a>. But, on the day jurors were set to be sworn in, she instead pled guilty to attempted murder while acting under provocation.<\/p>\n She faces a lengthy jail term when she is sentenced <\/a>next month.<\/p>\n The young victim <\/a>and a number of friends had been out on the evening of August 4, 2023. They ended up in the company of Macaulay and a male \u00adassociate before leaving.<\/p>\n The group again met the pair in Osborne Street where the boy was in an \u201caltercation<\/a>\u201d with Macaulay\u2019s friend.<\/p>\n Prosecutor Gareth Reid said that \u00adMacaulay got involved and a gin bottle<\/a> she had ended up smashed.<\/p>\n One of the boy\u2019s group grabbed the woman by the hair to try and get her off her friend.<\/p>\n Mr Reid told the court: \u201cMacaulay struck the boy on the neck<\/a> with the broken bottle. The boy realised that he was bleeding and slowly fell to the floor.\u201d<\/p>\n The incident was captured on CCTV<\/a> but from a distance away.<\/p>\n Macaulay fled as the victim\u2019s panicked friends flagged down passing British Transport police <\/a>officers for help.<\/p>\n An ambulance <\/a>called and he was taken to hospital. There was \u201cprofuse bleeding\u201d to a wound on the right side of his neck which required an operation.<\/p>\n Mr Reid said: \u201cThe injuries <\/a>sustained will leave permanent scarring. The surgeon stated that, but for medical intervention, his life would have been in danger due to the bleeding.\u201d<\/p>\n Macaulay was found by police having been spotted outside a post office in nearby Glassford Street<\/a>.<\/p>\n She claimed the others had been \u201cjumping\u201d on her male friend and that she had also been assaulted including having food thrown at her.<\/p>\n![\"Paula](\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/1751863691_33_0_proxyjfif.jpg\")
