In May 2018 the parent company, Bristol Thali Company Ltd, entered administration following the closure of its Oxford site, which lasted just one year.

In a show of defiance, the group was then bought out of administration by a private company called Jugaard Ltd, founded by former Thali staff including kitchen manager Jose Blanco Rodriguez, operations manager Dominka Paulina Sawicka-Harris and Michael Dillon, an investor who owned 75 percent of the company.

But this attempt to steer the ship in the right direction proved to be ill-fated, as the Thali’s restaurants in Southville, Clifton and Totterdown all shut down.

After the announcement of the Easton closure, this means only one Thali now remains.

Chai Guy opened its doors on St Marks Road in 2023.
