Nobody should live like this in modern Britain.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Student Theo Charlton, 21, also from Selly Oak, told the BBC: &#8220;The other day I was looking at everyone moving out and it was apocalyptic the amount of rubbish left behind.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;People don&#8217;t prepare for leaving, they just dump so much stuff. It&#8217;s getting contaminated. Some don&#8217;t have cars, even if they go to the tip they&#8217;re not allowed in as pedestrians.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/b34177c1-115a-4f14-988d-f7528084330f.jpg\"   alt=\"Birmingham residents say overflowing wheelie bins are making life a misery as the industrial action continues.\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"w-full max-w-none\"\/>Birmingham residents say overflowing wheelie bins are making life a misery as the industrial action continues.Sharon Graham &#8211; Unite general secretary<\/p>\n<p>The walkout began in January over pay cuts of up to \u00a38,000 impacting around 400 workers who are either former waste recycling collection officers or bin lorry drivers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The workers have a mandate to continue striking until December and last week staged a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expressandstar.com\/news\/environment\/2025\/07\/01\/birmingham-bin-workers-stage-demo-outside-lga-conference-in-liverpool-as-their-strike-continues\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">demonstration<\/a> outside the Local Government Association (LGA) conference in Liverpool.<\/p>\n<p>Sharon Graham, general secretary of Unite, said the union would be \u201crelentless\u201d in its pursuit of a fair deal.<\/p>\n<p>She said: &#8220;John Cotton needs to stop hiding from the biggest issue facing his council &#8211; the bin strikes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Birmingham residents understand exactly why the bin workers are striking:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The scale of the cuts being proposed by the council are indefensible.
