{"id":245593,"date":"2025-07-07T15:34:23","date_gmt":"2025-07-07T15:34:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/245593\/"},"modified":"2025-07-07T15:34:23","modified_gmt":"2025-07-07T15:34:23","slug":"dutch-intelligence-agencies-say-russia-increasing-use-of-chemical-weapons-in-ukraine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/245593\/","title":{"rendered":"Dutch intelligence agencies say Russia increasing use of chemical weapons in Ukraine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) \u2014 Two Dutch intelligence agencies said on Friday that Russia is increasing its use of prohibited chemical weapons in Ukraine, including the World War I-era poison gas chloropicrin.<\/p>\n<p>The Netherlands\u2019 military intelligence and the security service, together with the German intelligence service, found that the use of prohibited chemical weapons by <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/hub\/russia-ukraine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Russian military<\/a> had become \u201cstandardized and commonplace\u201d in Ukraine. <\/p>\n<p>According to the findings, the Russian military uses chloropicrin and riot control agent CS against sheltering Ukrainian soldiers, who are then forced out into the open and shot.<\/p>\n<p>Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans called for more sanctions against Moscow, and continued military support for Kyiv.<\/p>\n<p>Brekelmans, who stayed on in a caretaker role after <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/netherlands-politics-wilders-elections-parliament-c18fd4e32cc1ab8668f159d6630cf89d\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Dutch government collapsed last month<\/a>, said that he doesn\u2019t want to see the use of chemical weapons become normalized. <\/p>\n<p>Lowering the threshold for use \u201cis not only dangerous for Ukraine, but also for the rest of Europe and the world,\u201d he said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Russia has signed up to the Chemical Weapons Convention, which bans the use of chloropicrin and CS as weapons.
