(Image: Luke Murphy MP) The report details that A&E performance significantly dipped under the previous Conservative government, with 63.4 per cent of patients seen within four hours by July 2024, compared to 93.8 per cent a decade prior.

He said that since Labour took office, performance has started to improve, with nearly 1,700 more patients being seen on time in March 2025.

According to the report, average ambulance response times for severe emergencies increased from under 20 minutes in 2017 to almost 32 minutes by March 2024.

Labour reduced this to just over 21 minutes, beating national and regional averages.

Mr Murphy added that Labour inherited a backlog of more than 52,000 patients at Hampshire hospitals, with waiting times exceeding NHS targets. This was reduced to 50,897 by May 2025.

Access to GPs remains a serious concern, with only 56 per cent of patients finding it easy to contact their GP practice.

Almost two-thirds of adults and nearly half of the children in Hampshire went without an NHS dental appointment last year.

Mr Murphy said: “The NHS runs through the story of my life — my own family has relied on its care more times than I can count.

“Yet too many people in Basingstoke had been left waiting, worrying, and feeling let down after years of neglect by Conservative governments.

“I’m determined that we won’t hide from the problems; we’ll confront them.

“My report sets out the facts, lifts the voices of our town, and makes the case for the urgent action we need.”

The report’s publication aligns with the rollout of Labour’s national 10-Year Health Plan, a blueprint for NHS renewal.

This aims to bring the NHS closer to home and move away from the status quo, where hospital visits are the default.

Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has been asked for a comment.

Luke Murphy, who has been in the position for a year, has published a detailed report titled Re-building…

[4316
105,4348,16,15
0":"post-246493","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-healthcare","8":"tag-health","9":"tag-healthcare","10":"tag-uk","11":"tag-united-kingdom
["GET
