The European Union is preparing to impose its \u201ctoughest sanctions\u201d against Russia since the start of Moscow\u2019s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, according to France\u2019s top diplomat. Foreign Affairs Minister Jean-No\u00ebl Barrot said on Monday that E.U. sanctions would be introduced based on French proposals in coordination with U.S. congressmen.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The new restrictions will \u201cdirectly deplete the resources that allow Vladimir Putin to wage his war\u201d and will affect Russia’s oil revenues as well as the interests of \u201cfinancial players from Russia and other countries.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want Vladimir Putin, at last, to agree to a ceasefire,\u201d Barrot emphasized.<\/p>\n
In the United States, lawmakers are expected to review legislation later this month that would impose new \u201ccrushing\u201d sanctions against Russia. The bill would slap 500-percent tariffs on trade with any country that does business with Russia but refuses to help Ukraine.
