Photo credit should read: James Manning\/PA Wire\" decoding=\"sync\"\/><br \/>\n\t\tA test of a new public alert system on a mobile phone (Credits: PA)<\/p>\n<p>An emergency alert system will ring out on Brit\u2019s mobile phones in upcoming Government tests. <\/p>\n<p>Alarm bells sent straight to your mobile will be tested at around 3pm on September 7, in the United Kingdom\u2019s second-ever nationwide drill.<\/p>\n<p>The test comes after Brits complained that some networks <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/01\/17\/emergency-alert-warning-sent-87-000-000-uk-phones-need-know-22379460\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">didn\u2019t get the alert warning of potential life-threatening danger nearby in April 2023.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>A high-pitched alarm will sound on around 87 million mobile devices causing them to vibrate for ten seconds.<\/p>\n<p>A message will appear on the screen making it clear the alert is only a test.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\tSign up for all of the latest stories\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Start your day informed with Metro&#8217;s <strong><a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/newsletters\/news-updates\/?signup-source=news-article\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">News Updates<\/a><\/strong> newsletter or get <strong><a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/newsletters\/breaking-news?ito=news-article&amp;?signup_source=news-article-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Breaking News<\/a> <\/strong>alerts the moment it happens. <\/p>\n<p>The system has already been used in several scenarios \u2013 including storms, flooding and in one case when an unexploded Second World War bomb was discovered.<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of the national test, ministers are spearheading a public awareness campaign to ensure people understand when it is taking place.<\/p>\n<p>It will also aim to draw attention of the test to vulnerable groups like those facing domestic abuse, who may have secret mobile phones which they want to remain hidden from their partners.<\/p>\n<p>Pat McFadden, Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, is the Cabinet Office minister who has taken charge of efforts to boost national resilience against crises.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking as the Government announced the test is to take place, he said: \u2018Emergency alerts have the potential to save lives, allowing us to share essential information rapidly in emergency situations including extreme storms.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Just like the fire alarm in your house, it\u2019s important we test the system so that we know it will work if we need it.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Some five alerts have been issued since the system was first created.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t<img width=\"646\" height=\"430\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/SEI_232434343-868b.jpg\" class=\"article-image wp-image-22984825\" alt=\"Damage to the kiosks on the pier at Llandudno in north Wales is seen on December 8, 2024, after storm darragh brings winds of 90 mph to the west of Wales and north-west England.
