The British royal family joined in on the Pride celebrations.\n<\/p>\n
On Saturday, July 6, the official Instagram account for King Charles<\/a> and Queen Camilla<\/a> shared a video from the Pride of London Parade, which celebrated the conclusion of Pride month. The event featured more than 35,000 participants marching through the streets of London, from costumed drag queens to leather-clad bikers.\n<\/p>\n In the clip, a band of Coldstream Guards \u2014 whose primary role is to protect the monarchy \u2014 played a song in front of Buckingham Palace, opting to do their version of Chappell Roan<\/a>‘s “Pink Pony Club,” which has been embraced by the queer community as a modern anthem.\n<\/p>\n “Happy Pride! \ud83c\udf08\ud83e\udea9,” the post was captioned, to the glee of many commenters.\n<\/p>\n “This is wonderful and has made me feel proud xx,” one wrote, while another agreed, “We stan a royal ally \ud83d\udc4f\ud83c\udff3\ufe0f\u200d\ud83c\udf08.”\n<\/p>\n<\/p>\n The royals have become more outspoken about LGBTQ+ issues in recent years. At an event spotlighting the issue of homelessness among queen youth in 2019, Prince William<\/a> was asked what he would do if one of his children came out as gay one day. The heir to the throne shares three children \u2014 Prince George<\/a>, 11,\u00a0Princess Charlotte<\/a>, 10, and\u00a0Prince Louis<\/a>, 7 \u2014 with wife\u00a0Kate Middleton<\/a>, and he said he would be “obviously, absolutely fine” with it.\n<\/p>\n \u201cDo you know what, I\u2019ve been giving that some thought recently because a couple of other parents said that to me as well,\u201d William said at the time. \u201cI think you really don\u2019t start thinking about that until you are a parent, and I think \u2014 obviously, absolutely fine by me.\u201d\n<\/p>\n \u201cThe one thing I\u2019d be worried about is how they, particularly the roles my children fill, is how that is going to be interpreted and seen,\u201d he said. \u201cSo Catherine and I have been doing a lot of talking about it to make sure they were prepared.\u201d\n<\/p>\n The prince continued, \u201cI think communication is so important with everything, in order to help understand it, you\u2019ve got to talk a lot about stuff and make sure how to support each other and how to go through the process. It worries me not because of them being gay, it worries me as to how everyone else will react and perceive it, and then the pressure is then on them.\u201d<\/p>\n The Brits aren’t the only royals who embraced Pride month this year.\n<\/p>\n In Norway, Maud Angelica Behn, the 22-year-old granddaughter of King Harald V<\/a> and eldest daughter of Princess Martha Louise, announced that she was bisexual after attending Pride celebrations in Oslo.\n<\/p>\n
