Picture: Sheerness Revival<\/p>\n<p>Construction of the exciting attraction <a href=\"https:\/\/kentonline.co.uk\/sheerness\/news\/construction-of-seaside-adventure-golf-course-begins-322872\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">started in April<\/a> and is being carried out by Rock Ventures, a contractor that specialises in adventure golf and water slides.<\/p>\n<p>It is Sheppey-themed and features well-known landmarks, including the Kingsferry Bridge, the SS Richard Montgomery shipwreck and the Minster Abbey gatehouse.<\/p>\n<p>In January, those who live on Sheppey were asked for their <a href=\"https:\/\/kentonline.co.uk\/sheerness\/news\/first-look-at-plans-for-new-adventure-golf-course-for-20m-p-319291\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">input on the design.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sessions also took place at several schools in the town, where children had the chance to submit ideas and name the course.<\/p>\n<p>One of the most popular suggestions has seen the planned whale feature become \u201cSammy the Seal\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"rthmb\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg xmlns=\" http:=\"\" viewbox=\"0 0 940 736\" alt=\"It is set to open on Wednesday, July 23. Picture: Sheerness Revival<\/p>\n<p>It is a tribute to the friendly animal who has become a familiar sight at The Leas in Minster.<\/p>\n<p>Students from EKC Secondary School in Marine Parade said there should be scorpion obstacles on a Blue Town wall for one of the holes.<\/p>\n<p>The historic Sheerness High Street clock tower was included after a Rose Street Primary School pupil asked for it to replace the lighthouse design.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, artists&#8217; drawings unveiled the final style of the course, which has nods to the Island\u2019s aviation innovation heritage, such as the Wright Brothers&#8217; plane.<\/p>\n<p>It will cost a total of \u00a3429,425.91 and is part of a \u00a320 million regeneration scheme, which was awarded to Swale council by the government as part of its Levelling Up fund.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"rthmb\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg xmlns=\" http:=\"\" viewbox=\"0 0 3636 2050\" alt=\"An artist&#x2019;s impression of what the 18-hole course will look like. Picture: Sheerness Revival<\/p>\n<p>Updated pictures of the course and its progress have now been shared.<\/p>\n<p>It said: \u201cTake a sneak peek at the soon-to-open adventure golf in Beachfields!<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA large replica of the SS Montgomery is the centrepiece of the exciting new course, which features 18 holes celebrating the unique heritage and landmarks of the Island.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLocal people and school children contributed to the design, which is being installed alongside the soon-to-be extended and improved leisure centre, part of our government-funded Sheerness Revival project.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The council has since told KentOnline that the golf course will open to the public on Wednesday, July 23.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"rthmb\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg xmlns=\" http:=\"\" viewbox=\"0 0 1919 1281\" alt=\"Cllr Monique Bonney, chairwoman of the economy and property committee. Picture: Swale council<\/p>\n<p>Planning documents say it will be open 10am to 4pm from November to March, and 10am to 8pm from April to October.<\/p>\n<p>Cllr Monique Bonney (Swale Ind), chairwoman of the economy and property committee, said: \u201cThe adventure golf will be a great place for friends and families to meet and have fun outdoors, yet this is only a small part of our wider Sheerness Revival project.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeachfields Park has been a leisure destination for more than 100 years \u2013 the beach, aquarena pool, and funfair drawing thousands to Sheerness over the years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis new adventure golf course will add another chapter in that storied history.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur ambitious project is also aiming to improve education, employability, health and leisure on the Island through the improvement of our infrastructure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"rthmb\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg xmlns=\" http:=\"\" viewbox=\"0 0 940 736\" alt=\"Costing around &#xA3;430,000, the attraction is part of a major revamp in the area.
