Newcastle United recently confirmed that Callum Wilson would be leaving the club after five years.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The 33-year-old scored 49 times for the Magpies, and was rewarded for his efforts with a Carabao Cup winners’ medal earlier this year.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s currently unknown where Wilson\u2019s future lies, but his goalscoring credentials speak for themselves and he has previously proven to be a capable operator in the Championship.<\/p>\n

The former England international recorded 27 goal contributions for Bournemouth as they secured the second-tier title a decade ago and would be a deadly option for most clubs in the division.<\/p>\n

Leicester City<\/a> are preparing for life back in the Championship after a dismal Premier League campaign, where they became the first team to lose eight top-flight games in a row without scoring a single goal, making for a miserable atmosphere at the King Power Stadium come the end of the year.<\/p>\n

Club legend Jamie Vardy departed after 13 years, scoring 250 times for the Foxes during that period. The hole left by the 38-year-old is almost unfillable, but Wilson would provide a solid short-term fix – if he could stay fit.<\/p>\n

He has vast experience of playing football at the highest level and would help replace Vardy\u2019s presence in the dressing room.<\/p>\n\n

The former Newcastle striker is five years younger than the Leicester legend, so would be more than capable of operating out of the Championship physically.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, the Foxes<\/a> are still waiting on the outcome of their alleged PSR breach, which could result<\/a> in a minimum 12-point penalty if found guilty.<\/p>\n

Wilson would be available on a free transfer, which means that it wouldn\u2019t worsen any financial burden they are already potentially carrying, although his wages likely wouldn’t be cheap.<\/p>\n

To sweeten the deal, it would antagonise their bitter rivals, Coventry City, to no end.<\/p>\n

Prior to his success as a Premier League stalwart and England international, Wilson was a young prospect coming through the Coventry City academy.<\/p>\n

His standout season came during the 2013\/14 campaign, as he scored 22 goals for the Sky Blues<\/a> and proved to be a crucial factor in them avoiding relegation that year.<\/p>\n

The following summer, Bournemouth secured the forward\u2019s services, and the rest is history from there.<\/p>\n

Leicester <\/a>and Coventry\u2019s rivalry is well-documented, and it would be a bitter pill to swallow for the latter if their academy product donned the Foxes\u2019 famous blue shirt.<\/p>\n

On a purely footballing basis, it is understandable why Wilson would sign for Leicester.<\/p>\n

They should be one of the most competitive outfits in the Championship next season and one of the early favourites for promotion, even with their potential points penalty looming.<\/p>\n

However, football runs much deeper than the basis of pure logic and when emotions are involved, it is easy to see why Coventry<\/a> supporters would fill with rage.<\/p>\n

Seeing one of their own sign for their biggest rivals is nightmare fuel for most fans of the beautiful game, and a scenario the Sky Blues faithful will be desperately hoping doesn\u2019t come true this summer.<\/p>\n
