Martin Frizell has given a heartbreaking insight into Fiona Phillip’s life<\/a> now after her devastating Alzheimer’s diagnosis three years ago. Fiona, 64, initially thought her symptoms, including brain fog, anxiety and a lack of interest in her marriage<\/a>, were due to menopause until she was told she had the neurodegenerative condition, which tragically took the lives of both her parents.<\/p>\n Martin, 66, who last year gave up his job heading This Morning<\/a> to look after his wife, who he wed in 1997, has admitted that Fiona – with whom he shares two sons – now needs ‘a lot of help’, including with showering, washing her hair, brushing her teeth and getting dressed.<\/p>\n READ MORE: Inside Fiona Phillips and Eamonn Holmes’ feud as she reveals what she hated about him<\/a> Opening up about Fiona’s daily routine, he writes in her upcoming memoir: Remember when? My Life With Alzheimer’s, which is being serialised in the Mail<\/a>: “It is January 2025 as I write this, and Fiona needs a lot of help.<\/p>\n “She needs help showering and brushing her teeth. She can do these things physically, but is unable now to think about how she should do them…<\/p>\n “I wash Fiona\u2019s hair because she wouldn\u2019t know what shampoo or conditioner to use or how wet her hair needs to be or that she must rinse the soap suds out afterwards…<\/p>\n “And most nights I\u2019ll say, \u2018Right, we need to brush our teeth before we go to bed,\u2019 and I\u2019ll put the toothpaste on the brush and hand it to her.”<\/p>\n Martin explains that while Fiona can dress herself, she doesn’t do it “correctly” and sometimes puts things on the wrong way round.<\/p>\n He also reveals his wife becomes very fond of one piece of clothing and will want to wear it “over and over again.”<\/p>\n Admitting that Fiona, who was one of the UK’s most in-demand presenters, hosting GMTV for more than decade, is “still very stubborn”, Martin, heartbreakingly, concedes she doesn’t like being told what to do and “rails against it”.<\/p>\n Fiona<\/a> recently admitted she had no idea she was suffering from Alzheimer’s <\/a>before her diagnosis three years ago. The former GMTV star, initially put her symptoms, including brain fog, anxiety and a lack of interest in her marriage down to menopause. However, three years ago she was tragically told that she had the neurodegenerative disease, which both her parents suffered with.<\/p>\n Following Fiona’s diagnosis, Martin quit his job at This Morning after 10 years in 2024, saying he ‘expected his priorities to change’.<\/p>\n He announced: \u201cNext year I\u2019m expecting my family priorities to change so I need to free up time for them.
