An unexploded bomb was found inside a house <\/a>this morning. At around 10.10am today (Tuesday 8 July), Merseyside Police<\/a> received a report that the item had been found on Stubbs Lane in Noctorum, Birkenhead.<\/a><\/p>\n A bomb disposal team attended the house as a precaution. Pictures show multiple officers were on Hoylake beach<\/a> afterwards.<\/p>\n Residents claimed roads leading up to the beach had been closed off to allow a controlled explosion to be carried out.<\/p>\n When contacted by the ECHO<\/a>, a spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: \u201cWe can confirm that officers have been in Birkenhead<\/a> following the discovery of a suspected unexploded ordnance.<\/p>\n \u201cAt around 10.10am today (Tuesday 8 July), it was reported that the object was inside a property on Stubbs Lane, in Noctorum, and as a precaution the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team were in attendance.<\/p>\n \u201cThere has now been a controlled explosion and the incident has been stood down.<\/p>\n \u201cThank you to residents for their patience.\u201d<\/p>\n Del Willden, who spotted police in Hoylake<\/a>, told the ECHO earlier today that the promenade was closed off from King’s Gap to Hoylake Lifeboat Station.<\/p>\n He said: \u201cThere\u2019s a large police presence and an army bomb disposal squad here too.”<\/p>\n Another resident reported that \u201cblack sand\u201d could be seen on the beach where the controlled explosion took place.<\/p>\n For the latest news and breaking news visit <\/a>liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news\/<\/a><\/p>\n Get all the big headlines, pictures, analysis, opinion and video on the stories that matter to you by signing up to our daily and breaking newsletter<\/a>.
