Detectives investigating the murder of Euan Johnston<\/a> are searching for a gun near a quarry in Oban nine years after the brutal gangland execution.<\/p>\n

The 26-year-old was shot in the head twice as he sat in his car at traffic lights on Scotland Street in Glasgow in 2016. A vehicle pulled up beside him and a gunman opened fire.<\/p>\n

During the shooting Johnston’s foot jammed on the accelerator, causing his Audi RS4 estate to shoot forward and slam into roadside barriers in the Kinning Park area of the city.<\/p>\n

Johnston, a dad of two, suffered a catastrophic brain injury and died at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.<\/p>\n

In May 2018, David Scott was convicted of his murder at the High Court in Glasgow. The 33-year-old was jailed for a minimum of 22 years.<\/p>\n

The incident<\/a> was believed to be linked to organised crime – and following extensive enquiries, officers say they know that more than one person was at the scene of the murder. The case remains open and investigations have been continuing.<\/p>\n

A team of detectives, specialist officers and national resources are now carrying out detailed searches in a grass embankment area near the Soroba Road area in Oban, where cops believe a firearm which is possibly connected to the murder could be situated.<\/p>\n

Detective Superintendent Peter Sharp said: “We know from our enquiries<\/a> that there was more than one person involved in the murder of Euan Johnston and we are determined to bring those responsible for his death to justice.<\/p>\n

“Although his murder was almost nine years ago, time is no barrier for justice and we are working to get answers for Mr Johnston’s relatives.<\/p>\n

“They have been informed of these new searches and specialist officers are supporting them during this difficult time. We will keep them updated as our investigations continue.”<\/p>\n

Officers<\/a> are re-appealing for any new information which they say may help them get justice and answers for Mr Johnston’s family.<\/p>\n

This activity is expected to last several days and there will be an increased police presence in the area.<\/p>\n

Detective Superintendent Sharp added: “As well as our searches, I am appealing for anyone with information, and who may not have already spoken to us, to do so now.<\/p>\n

“A significant amount of time has passed since Mr Johnston’s murder<\/a> and we understand that allegiances may have changed over the time.<\/p>\n

“If you have any information, no matter how insignificant, please come forward. “All new information will be taken seriously and thoroughly investigated.\u201d<\/p>\n
