They definitely sound local.

“Normally you would be able to track it down, so there’s a bit of doubt on its authenticity at the moment.”

Many viewers online took the shark to be a great white, which is an occasional visitor to Bermuda, but Mr Aming said the size of the fish was a giveaway.

“It definitely appears to be a basking shark, and a juvenile,” he said. “They grow to 30ft. If it is, and if it’s Bermuda, that’s the first ever recorded here, which is why we’re interested in the video.

“That would be a significant thing, so I would love to find out if somebody can confirm it.”

Basking sharks are second only to whale sharks in size, and are typically seen in temperate waters.

The slow-moving sharks are filter feeders, subsisting on plankton, and are neither aggressive nor pose a threat to humans.

Created: Jul 08, 2025 07:57 AM (Updated: Jul 08, 2025 01:19 PM) A brief video making the rounds…

[3847
6481,24230,70,16,15,1717
0":"post-248421","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-wildlife","8":"tag-fishing","9":"tag-oceans","10":"tag-science","11":"tag-uk","12":"tag-united-kingdom","13":"tag-wildlife
["GET
