It will be auctioned off with a guide price of \u00a3450,000.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">While the market\u2019s future lies with whoever buys it on July 30, auctioneers Pugh believe it will make the ideal spot for new housing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">Stay connected with our City Life newsletter <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/newsletter-preference-centre\/?view=Solus&amp;mailingListId=d1c9a1cf-d773-47a3-b51a-f456316221bc&amp;utm_source=solusarticle\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"hereLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cAlthough it\u2019s always sad to see a community asset such as a market go, there is an urgent need for quality new housing stock in Harpurhey,\u201d said Ed Feather, a director at Pugh.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cThe area immediately surrounding the market site is mainly residential, so a new development would be in keeping with this neighbourhood.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">He added: \u201cIt\u2019s in an excellent location, just four miles north of <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/manchester-city-centre\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Manchester city centre<\/a> and right next to the pleasant 45-acre green space of Moston Vale.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/1_JS371495747.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Conran Street Market, Harpurhey 1972(Image: Manchester Libraries and Local Archives)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cCentral Park business park is also nearby, with a growing workforce and a resulting demand for quality accommodation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Along with stalls, Conran Street has a cafe and graffiti artwork on the wall of the main market building, which Pugh added will be \u2018safeguarded\u2019 as a community asset, either by incorporating the art into any new development, or moving the wall to another spot in Harpurhey.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Pat Karney, a Labour councillor for the area, told the Local Democracy Reporting Service the \u2018unique\u2019 market had defined the north Manchester neighbourhood for generations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">He said: \u201cIt\u2019s been in Harpurhey for decades but the whole world of markets has moved on.
