Police have safely removed an improvised explosive device from a house in south Armagh.<\/p>\n
The device, and other items, were seized from the property on the Tassagh Road, Keady by police, assisted by the Army, for further forensic examination.<\/p>\n
Officers carried out the search to assist an ongoing investigation by the garda\u00ed (Irish police).<\/p>\n
On Sunday, garda\u00ed arrested a man in his 40s in County Monaghan and he was released without charge on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
They said it followed the discovery of improvised explosive devices in the north-east and south-west of the Republic of Ireland.<\/p>\n
The Police Service of Northern Ireland said it was investigating a potential link between the Tassagh Road search and a security alert in Ballyards Road in Milford in County Armagh on 1 July.<\/p>\n
Police said anyone with information should get in touch with them. <\/p>\n
William Irwin, a Democratic Unionist Party assembly member for Newry and Armagh, said the removal of the device in Keady was a “welcome development” but its discovery was worrying for the local area.<\/p>\n
“We thought we had put that behind us,” he added.<\/p>\n
