ITV has confirmed that hit crime drama Grantchester will come to an end after 11 years. Filming is already underway for the eleventh and final series of the show and fans need to get ready to say an emotional goodbye. The TV show<\/a> was first broadcast in 2014 and soon became a hit with fans.<\/p>\n Adapted from the Grantchester Mysteries novels by James Runcie, it is set in the Cambridgeshire village of Grantchester during the 1950-60s. The first series<\/a> began over a decade ago when Sidney Chambers (James Norton) decided to become an investigator when a parishioner was murdered under mysterious circumstances. He teamed up with Inspector Geordie to solve various criminal cases.<\/p>\n James Norton <\/a>portrayed the village’s vicar for the first four seasons before Tom Brittney took over as Will Davenport. Rishi Nair came to Grantchester as vicar Alphy Kottaram in series nine and will close out the series as the crime-solving vicar.<\/a><\/p>\n In the final series, several familiar faces will return to reprise their roles one last time. Robson Green returns as Geordie with Rishi Nair as Alphy, Al Weaver as Leonard Finch, Tessa Peake-Jones as Mrs. C, Kacey Ainsworth as Cathy Keating, Oliver Dimsdale as Daniel Marlowe, Nick Brimble as Jack Chapman, Bradley Hall as DC Larry Peters and Melissa Johns as Miss Scott.<\/p>\n Daisy Coulam, writer, series creator and executive producer, said: “At its heart, Grantchester is a show about the power of friendship and love. We\u2019ve been so lucky over the last 11 series to experience that on and off screen.<\/a><\/p>\n “For over a decade now – cast and crew (many who\u2019ve been there since the beginning) have met each summer to film. And it\u2019s been an absolute joy. Thank you to James Runcie for entrusting us with his characters. Thank you to the lovely people of real Grantchester. Thank you to everyone who\u2019s been a part of the show in any way – big or small. I\u2019ll miss you terribly.”<\/p>\n Fans can expect<\/a> to be on the edge of their seats once again as Alphy learns more about his past. He comes to realise that there is a whole other life he could have led, making him question who he is and what he believes in. He also continues to get to know Meg, the Bishop\u2019s daughter.<\/p>\n Geordie is more cheerful as he\u2019s enjoying a time of relative peace.
