{"id":249759,"date":"2025-07-09T03:59:17","date_gmt":"2025-07-09T03:59:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/249759\/"},"modified":"2025-07-09T03:59:17","modified_gmt":"2025-07-09T03:59:17","slug":"macron-urges-europe-to-cut-excessive-dependencies-on-us-china","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/249759\/","title":{"rendered":"Macron urges Europe to cut &#8216;excessive&#8217; dependencies on US, China"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>ISTANBUL<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday urged the UK and wider Europe to reduce their economic and technological dependencies on both the US and China, warning that such reliance poses long-term risks to sovereignty and strategic autonomy.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking before both houses of the British Parliament during a state visit to London, Macron said: \u201cIf we still depend on both China and the US, I think we have a clear view of our future and the future of our children.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want an open world. We want to cooperate, but not to depend,\u201d he stressed.<\/p>\n<p>He criticized what he called \u201covercapacities and other subsidies\u201d from China while also pointing to the \u201ctrade war\u201d initiated by the US, which he described as \u201can explicit decision not to be compliant anymore with the WTO.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Urging Europe against excessive dependencies on both the US and China, Macron added: \u201cEach time we depend, each time we are not able to stand up and decide and agree to disagree. This is the beginning of our problem.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His remarks come ahead of a Franco-British summit in London on Thursday, where leaders are expected to unveil new defense, energy, and economic initiatives.<\/p>\n<p>On foreign policy, Macron praised the UK\u2019s early and steadfast support for Ukraine following Russia\u2019s invasion.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Since the first day, and even before the first day, you were part of the closest ally in training the army, being here the first day to protect President Zelenskyy, his government, and allowing the forces just to resist,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We were right, and we are right,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery time Vladimir Putin&#8217;s Russia advances in Ukraine, the threat moves closer to us all.
