\n\tSarah Jessica Parker<\/a> is defending her decision to not often talk about politics<\/a> on social media by pointing out that other major elections took place before apps like Instagram existed.<\/p>\n

\n\tWhile appearing on the Monday episode of Nicolle Wallace\u2019s The Best People podcast<\/a>, Parker explained that she tries to avoid political conversations on social media and argued that there\u2019s a better way to express her thoughts on important topics.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI often don\u2019t talk on social media because I don\u2019t think it\u2019s a place that\u2019s deserving of any real complicated conversation. I\u2019m not interested in quick little snippets when it\u2019s dealing with conflict or even elections sometimes,\u201d Parker said. \u201cI really was so thoughtful about how I wanted to talk about the election because I think it turns into a distraction from a campaign. It turns into fodder. It\u2019s misunderstood. You have no control over it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Sex and the City actress said that there are \u201cso many ways to work toward a more civil society\u201d and she pointed out that \u201cFDR was elected without social media\u201d in 1932.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cMany things happened, right and left, Republicans and Democrats for many, many, many, many years \u2014 many generations were elected without someone having to say something on Instagram,\u201d Parker continued.<\/p>\n

\n\tParker said that people have urged her to \u201cbe vocal\u201d as a public figure, though she has had to find her own way to be \u201ccomfortable being vocal.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019m not going to talk about stuff that I don\u2019t feel educated on. I\u2019m not going to jump in on really complex areas that I feel are deserving of far more thought, consideration, nuance \u2014 which I know no one\u2019s interested in,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd I just feel like I want to be helpful. I don\u2019t want to hurt something that matters to me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWhen it comes to educating herself on political matters, Parker said that she reads a lot and tries to understand \u201cwhat is scary and what is dangerous.\u201d She added that she also wants to know \u201cthe difference between something being said and the reality of it happening.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWhile Parker does not want to be pressured into endorsing political candidates, she has been known to advocate for political teams she believes in. She previously endorsed then-Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, in the 2024 presidential election against President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cFor the love of my country, for our public schools, for books, for common sense gun laws, for a living wage, for opportunity, for women, for voting rights, the the Dreamers, for arts and culture, for my mother and senior citizens,\u201d she wrote in an Instagram<\/a> caption in October 2024, which was accompanied by a photo of her hanging up a sign featuring Harris and Walz\u2019s names. \u201cWith an abundance of joy, optimism and pride, I am voting for Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz.\u201d<\/p>\n
