{"id":250117,"date":"2025-07-09T07:07:09","date_gmt":"2025-07-09T07:07:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/250117\/"},"modified":"2025-07-09T07:07:09","modified_gmt":"2025-07-09T07:07:09","slug":"important-day-for-england-and-wales-at-euro-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/250117\/","title":{"rendered":"Important day for England and Wales at Euro 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">England&#8217;s Lionesses are the reigning European champions, having <a href=\"https:\/\/feeds.bbci.co.uk\/newsround\/62374911\" class=\"ssrcss-jx182a-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">won the title<\/a> in 2022.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">They started the defence of their Euro&#8217;s title against France.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">However, things didn&#8217;t quite go to plan and the Lionesses lost the game 2-1.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The result meant that England became the first defending champions in women&#8217;s Euros history to lose their opening game of a following tournament.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The Lionesses now play the Netherlands in their second group game on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Striker Alessia Russo said that the team are feeling positive despite the result.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">She explained: &#8220;Ultimately we don&#8217;t like losing but when a result like that happens you have to reflect and come together as a team.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;We have bounced back before. We know we weren&#8217;t up to it against France. For our own standards, we want to be better.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">England manager Sarina Wiegman admitted that the Netherlands match is a must-win game:<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;It&#8217;s a final for us, we will do everything to win. Every game is must-win. We&#8217;ve experienced that before.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The Lionesses face the Netherlands in Zurich at 5pm UK time.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"England&#8217;s Lionesses are the reigning European champions, having won the title in 2022.
