Leeds United are closing in on a deal to sign Sean Longstaff from Newcastle United, and he could become the club\u2019s fifth signing of the summer so far.<\/strong><\/p>\n

We\u2019re now up to signing number four at Elland Road<\/a> this summer, after Leeds United confirmed the signing of Gabriel Gudmundsson<\/a> on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Gudmundsson had been linked with a move from Lille to Leeds for a few weeks and he arrives in place of Junior Firpo who is set to join Real Betis<\/a>, though when that move will actually be confirmed remains to be seen.<\/p>\n

So far this summer, Leeds have brought in three defenders in centre-backs Jaka Bijol and Sebastiaan Bornauw, and now left-back Gudmundsson, along with a new striker in Lukas Nmecha.<\/p>\n

And it looks like a new midfielder is next with reports that Leeds United are close to signing Sean Longstaff<\/a> in a \u00a312million deal from Newcastle United: Leeds have been linked with Longstaff for well over a year and now it looks like Farke will finally get his man.<\/p>\n

After Longstaff, Farke could be set to bolster his frontline with another striker. There are a few linked right now and one of those is Dominic Calvert-Lewin<\/a>. He\u2019s a free agent after leaving Everton and Leeds United are among the clubs interested in Calvert-Lewin<\/a>, who also counts interest from Manchester United.<\/p>\n

And speaking on talkSPORT, former manager Alan Pardew has given his thoughts on Calvert-Lewin, giving the 28-year-old some high praise indeed, comparing him to one of Europe\u2019s hottest strikers right now in Viktor Gyokeres.<\/p>\n

Pardew explained: \u201cActually, on their day, there\u2019s not much between them, if you know what I mean. If Calvin has a day and Gyokeres has a day, they\u2019re very similar. But of course the consistency level of Calvin and the fact that he\u2019s not really on the pitch that often is the big, big problem with him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Calvert-Lewin, who has 57 goals in 239 total Premier League appearances, scored three in 26 Premier League games last season, with 17 total goals in the last four top flight seasons. Gyokeres by comparison scored 39 goals in the Portuguese top flight with Sporting CP last season alone, with 54 in all competitions.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The truth behind Leeds United\u2019s interest in Dominic Calvert-Lewin<\/p>\n

There\u2019s a lot that\u2019s been said about Calvert-Lewin to Leeds United already this summer. After initial links broke, it was claimed that Calvert-Lewin wasn\u2019t a priority signing for Leeds United<\/a> this summer, but that he\u2019s a person of interest.<\/p>\n

And speaking to Leeds United News recently, transfer expert Graeme Bailey revealed that Leeds have held talks to sign Calvert-Lewin<\/a> this summer, but that a potential move for the former England striker is not close as things stand.<\/p>\n

Bailey said: \u201cLeeds have had conversations with Dom Calvert-Lewin. He\u2019s considering his options and Leeds are certainly one of them, there has been talks. Callum Wilson as well, but Leeds have held talks for Calvert-Lewin but he\u2019s not close to signing or anything like that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Whilst Calvert-Lewin has proven himself in the top flight, he\u2019s nowhere near the level of Gyokeres, even on his day which simply hasn\u2019t come around enough in the last few years. Leeds United should be aiming a lot higher: they can get a better, fitter striker for much less than what he\u2019d cost each week.<\/p>\n
