{"id":250581,"date":"2025-07-09T11:08:17","date_gmt":"2025-07-09T11:08:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/250581\/"},"modified":"2025-07-09T11:08:17","modified_gmt":"2025-07-09T11:08:17","slug":"leeds-united-take-new-stance-on-20m-playmaker-after-gabriel-gudmundsson-marcelo-bielsa-wanted-him","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/250581\/","title":{"rendered":"Leeds United take new stance on \u00a320m playmaker after Gabriel Gudmundsson, Marcelo Bielsa wanted him"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>With Gabriel Gudmundsson confirmed, Sean Longstaff on his way and Jaka Bijol, Lukas Nmecha and Sebastiaan Bornauw already at Leeds United, the squad is starting to take shape.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Adam Underwood was always expected to bring in a whole heap of new players this summer, and he had to. <a href=\"http:\/\/leedsunited.news\/club\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Leeds<\/a> have lost five key players from <a href=\"http:\/\/leedsunited.news\/club\/manager\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Daniel Farke\u2019s<\/a> squad that won promotion to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leedsunited.news\/tag\/premier-league\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Premier League<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Manor Solomon and Joe Rothwell\u2019s loans expired, while Junior Firpo and Josuha Guilavogui have left the club on a free. Max Wober, meanwhile, has completed a loan move to German side Werder Bremen.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.leedsunited.news\/transfers\/leeds-united-set-to-seal-fifth-summer-signing-before-the-weekend-after-gabriel-gudmundsson\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Leeds are expected to announce Longstaff by the end of the week<\/a>, a fifth addition before the middle of July. One option for the 10 role is Farke\u2019s old ace <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leedsunited.news\/tag\/emi-buendia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Emi Buendia<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.leedsunited.news\/transfers\/how-emi-buendia-is-feeling-about-his-future-in-january-after-leeds-united-tried-to-sign-him-in-the-summer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Farke wanted him in January<\/a>, and has been told that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leedsunited.news\/transfers\/the-price-aston-villa-are-now-demanding-from-leeds-united-to-sign-emi-buendia-this-summer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Buendia will cost \u00a320m<\/a>. Well, Graeme Bailey has now exclusively told <strong>LeedsUnited.News<\/strong> that Leeds have changed tack, and are pursuing a loan with an option.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/GettyImages-2165699306-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"Leeds United manager Daniel Farke clapping after a Championship game against Portsmouth.\" class=\"wp-image-96898\" \/>Photo by Gary Oakley\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>It comes after Buendia returned to Villa after a loan at Leverkusen in the second half of last season: \u201cI am told that Leeds want Buendia on loan with an option to sign him \u2013 think Leeds are waiting Villa out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Marcelo Bielsa also wanted to sign Emi Buendia at Leeds United<\/p>\n<p>A move to <a href=\"http:\/\/leedsunited.news\/club\/stadium\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Elland Road<\/a> has been long in the works for Buendia, who eventually left Norwich to join Aston Villa and become a club-record signing at \u00a340m for the Midlands side. But Leeds also wanted Buendia.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/GettyImages-1165136693-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Marcelo Bielsa during his stint as Leeds United manager.\" class=\"wp-image-82998\" \/>Photo by Athena Pictures\/Getty Images <\/p>\n<p>MORE LEEDS UNITED STORIES<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, the summer of 2020 saw <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/sport\/football\/article-8584439\/Leeds-quoted-25m-Norwich-Emi-Buendia-Bielsa-eyes-Bruges-winger-Emmanuel-Dennis.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">The Daily Mail<\/a> say <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leedsunited.news\/tag\/marcelo-bielsa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Marcelo Bielsa<\/a> was eyeing a \u00a325m move for Buendia. It came after Buendia was relegated with Farke in 2019-20, but Buendia remained with The Canaries.<\/p>\n<p>Promotion came the next season and that summer, in 2021, he joined Villa.
