Nigel Farage<\/a> tried to exploit the government\u2019s failure so far to \u201csmash the gangs\u201d sending thousands of asylum seekers across the Channel in small boats \u2013 and ended up getting schooled by Keir Starmer.<\/a><\/p>\n

The Reform UK<\/a> leader harked back to the Brexit<\/a> vote in 2016, saying the country chose to leave the EU because \u201cwe wanted to take back control of our borders so that we and we alone could decide who comes and settles in our country\u201d.<\/p>\n

Farage went on the attack at prime minister\u2019s questions as Starmer prepares to hold crunch talks in Downing Street with French president Emmanuel Macron<\/a> about how to solve the small boats crisis.<\/p>\n

\u201cDoes the prime minister understand that that demand today is even greater than it was back in 2016, and that we demand that you say the the French president we will not accept undocumented males across the English Channel and that you are not dictated to by an increasingly arrogant, anti-Brexit French president,\u201d Farage asked.<\/p>\n

The PM said the government was committed to \u201cworking with other countries to ensure that we take the measures necessary to stop people crossing the Channel\u201d \u2013 and contrasted that approach with that of the Reform leader.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis proposal for 10 years wagging the Tory dog has been to break everything and claim that\u2019s how you fix things, to stick two fingers up at your neighbours and then expect them to work with us,\u201d Starmer said.<\/p>\n

He then attacked Farage for voting against the government\u2019s Borders Bill, which he said \u201cgives more powers to our law enforcement to deal with security at our borders\u201d.<\/p>\n

The PM added: \u201cThe reason for that is he has no interest in fixing the problem because he wants to milk it and exploit it. That\u2019s the truth about him and his party.\u201d<\/p>\n

Farage only gets chosen to ask Starmer a question once every few weeks.
