Egypt is rapidly solidifying its position in the global fresh strawberry market, with exports to Germany reaching their highest level in five marketing years, according to EastFruit<\/a>. Citing Global Trade Tracker data from the German Statistical Office, Egypt exported 3.69 thousand metric tons of strawberries to Germany between July 2024 and April 2025, valued at $18.6 million.<\/p>\n

This volume represents an 87% increase compared to the previous two marketing years and is more than four times higher than exports recorded in MY 2021\/22. It also marks the highest export volume in the past five years and is on track to potentially surpass the all-time record of 3.72 thousand tons set in MY 2019\/20.<\/p>\n

Germany remains one of Egypt\u2019s key export destinations for fresh strawberries. In the current MY, Germany ranks as Egypt\u2019s third-largest market, following the United Kingdom, and accounts for approximately 10% of Egypt\u2019s total strawberry exports.<\/p>\n

Spain, Greece, and the Netherlands dominate Germany\u2019s strawberry import market, supplying around 90% of total imports. These countries provide year-round availability, with peak shipments in April and May. Egypt, however, strategically exports from November through March, capitalizing on a window when traditional suppliers are less active. In MY 2024\/25, Egypt\u2019s peak export months were December 2024 (1.4 thousand tons) and January 2025 (1.2 thousand tons), leveraging its geographic advantage to meet off-season demand.<\/p>\n

Despite Egypt\u2019s strong performance, Germany\u2019s overall strawberry imports have declined. Over the ten-month period, Germany imported just 80 thousand tons\u2014down 10% from 90 thousand tons during the same period in the previous MY. If this trend continues, Germany could close MY 2024\/25 with its lowest strawberry import volume in six years.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, Egypt is well-positioned to break into the top five strawberry suppliers to Germany by the end of the marketing year, especially as exports from competing countries decline.<\/p>\n

Globally, Egypt ranks seventh among the world\u2019s top strawberry exporters and is actively expanding its presence in Southeast<\/a> and Central Asian<\/a> markets, as previously reported by EastFruit.<\/p>\n
