Footage has emerged showing teenagers making a neo-Nazi pose at the Auschwitz <\/a>gates, while others sang a nationalist chant at Bergen-Belsen.<\/p>\n The German students caused an uproar after making the gesture at the Auschwitz death camp<\/a>, where around 1.1 million people were murdered during the Holocaust. <\/p>\n The high school<\/a> pupils from Germany made the \u2018OK\u2019 gesture, which has been widely used by white supremacists when visiting the concentration camp, The Times<\/a> reports.<\/p>\n Four boys from the city of G\u00f6rlitz made the gesture in March, but news of the incident emerged this week after a picture appeared on a student\u2019s Instagram<\/a> account. <\/p>\n \t\t A spokesman for the Scultetus high school said the four were disciplined and assisted in a workshop for people with disabilities, according to The Times. <\/p>\n While the Nazi or Sieg Heil salute is illegal in Germany, Austria and Slovakia, making the \u2018OK\u2019 sign is not. <\/p>\n \t\t\t\tWhat you cannot do when visiting a concentration camp \t\t\t<\/p>\n There have been reports of visitors moving items from Auschwitz, Poland, including stealing pieces of the infamous iron gates. <\/p>\n An American tourist tried to steal part of the historic<\/a> train tracks, where prisoners were unloaded to their deaths. <\/p>\n However, moving, damaging or removing any objects on the grounds is prohibited at Auschwitz-Birkenau. <\/p>\n Visitors should also keep to designated paths, maintain silence and avoid any disrespectful activity.<\/p>\n Clemens Arndt, from the Saxony state education office, told the German tabloid Bild: \u2018The pupils were made aware of their misconduct. The headmistress confirmed that the four pupils had understood.\u2019 <\/p>\n In a separate incident, the students, aged 14 and 15, sang \u2018Germany for the Germans, foreigners out\u2019 at the Bergen-Belsen memorial last summer<\/a>. <\/p>\n Around 52,000 people died there during Adolf Hitler\u2019s Nazi regime before prisoners were released by British troops 80 years ago. <\/p>\n \t\t The students were reportedly from Helmholtz high school, which describes itself as a \u2018school without racism,\u2019 according to The Times. <\/p>\n Staff confronted the group at the site, it is understood. <\/p>\n In 2018, three girls were pictured making the Nazi salute outside the Auschwitz gate and train tracks, MailOnline reports. <\/p>\n The image was spotted by the Auschwitz museum authorities before the girls tried to delete it off Instagram. <\/p>\n Despite its dark past, the far right\u2019s popularity has surged in Germany in recent years. <\/p>\n \t\t The Alternative for Germany (AfD) made historical gains<\/a> in the February election, taking home 20% of the votes \u2013 the biggest election result for the right-wing since the Second World War. <\/p>\n The Bergen-Belsen camp was freed on April 15, 1945, with many prisoners being near death with starvation and suffering from typhus and dysentery.<\/p>\n A survivor of the camp\u2019s horrors, Alfred Garwood, told Metro<\/strong> how his family survived the Bergen-Belsen while he was just an infant<\/a>. <\/p>\n However, his grandparents and aunt were murdered by the Gestapo. <\/p>\n Alfred said: \u2018To this day, I don\u2019t know why my family was spared when others weren\u2019t so lucky.
