George<\/strong> and Amal Clooney<\/strong> visited Buckingham Palace for The King\u2019s Trust Awards last month, where they were able to have a chat with King Charles III<\/strong> himself \u2013 and according to a source, it stirred up a bit of a rivalry with Tom Cruise<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cTom\u2019s not even disguising how annoyed he is about this,\u201d a source exclusively tells the Examiner. \u201cHe was already quite sensitive to the amount of time that David Beckham<\/strong>\u2019s been getting with [Prince<\/strong>] William<\/strong> and how it\u2019s taking away opportunities from him. But now that George is worming his way in and getting face time with King Charles, it\u2019s sent Tom into a total tizzy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Over the years, the Mission: Impossible star, 63, who also lives in the U.K., has \u201ctried too hard to ingratiate himself\u201d with the royal family, the source says. \u201cAnd here\u2019s George who\u2019s barely lifted a finger to try and get in with them being treated like an aristocrat.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s left Tom fuming and trash-talking George to all their mutual friends,\u201d adds the source.<\/p>\n

As for Clooney, 64, the source reveals he \u201cisn\u2019t batting an eye\u201d at Cruise\u2019s frustration.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe doesn\u2019t take anything Tom says or does seriously,\u201d the source explains. \u201cIf anything it\u2019s giving him a good laugh to know he\u2019s gotten under Tom\u2019s skin this way.\u201d<\/p>\n

This comes more than four years after Clooney gently criticized Cruise\u2019s handling of a situation on set. After an audio clip leaked of Cruise shouting at his crew for allegedly breaking COVID-19 pandemic rules while filming Mission: Impossible 7, the Ocean\u2019s 11 actor suggested he understood Cruise\u2019s need to keep the production running, but said that he wouldn\u2019t have handled the situation the same way if he had been in his position.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have a friend who is an [assistant director] on another TV show who just had almost the exact same thing happen with not quite as far out a response,\u201d he said in a 2020 interview with Howard Stern<\/strong><\/a>. \u201c[I] wouldn\u2019t have done it that big \u2026 I wouldn\u2019t have pulled people out.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re in a position of power and it\u2019s tricky, right?\u201d he continued. \u201cYou do have a responsibility for everybody else, and he\u2019s absolutely right about that, and if the production goes down a lot of people lose their jobs.\u201d<\/p>\n
