A huge shotgun and rounds of ammunition were found during a police search of a woodland in Oldham<\/a> on Wednesday (July 9).<\/p>\n Officers from Operation Vulcan discovered and seized the firearm following a search of the area, located on Oldham Edge, at the top of Henshaw Street.<\/p>\n A sawn-off shotgun with eleven cartridges of ammunition was discovered. It was safely recovered and has been sent for expert forensic analysis as part of the investigation.<\/p>\n Never miss a story with the MEN’s daily Catch Up newsletter – get it in your inbox by signing up here<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n The work in the Derker area follows on from previous Vulcan initiatives carried out by Greater Manchester Police<\/a>, in Cheetham Hill<\/a> and Piccadilly Gardens<\/a>. Dozens of arrests have been made along with hundreds of stop-searches.<\/p>\n Detective Inspector Lee Newburn, from GMP\u2019s Vulcan team, said: \u201cThis successful find has meant a deadly weapon is off the streets of Oldham and is a further example of the work the Vulcan team is doing in keeping Derker and the wider community safe.<\/p>\n \u201cWe have already taken countless weapons off the streets and will continue to do this, while pursuing those who are responsible and bringing them to justice.<\/p>\n Join the Manchester Evening News <\/strong>WhatsApp<\/strong> group <\/strong>HERE<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cOfficers will continue to tirelessly work with local partners and to ensure we carry out operations which smash criminals and the illegal activity they take part in.\u201d<\/p>\n Anyone with information about firearms or other criminality in Derker and Oldham are being urged to contact the police immediately.<\/p>\n Information can be shared by calling 101, or by using the Live Chat function online.
