A South Carolina family just paid off a year\u2019s mortgage<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 thanks to the 2025 Masters Tournament<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Homeowner Whitney Boykin and her family earned a hefty, undisclosed sum by renting out their North Augusta home during the 2025 Masters.<\/p>\n

This year’s renters were a Texas<\/a>-based company that brought staff to the event.\u00a0<\/p>\n

‘I’m one of the rare locals who says I love Masters week. I just want visitors to see how amazing it is here,’ Boykin told Business Insider<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The South Carolina-based photographer revealed this was the seventh year her family rented out their home during the Masters<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Boykins usually spend about $5,000 on preparations for their home.<\/p>\n

Besides the April event, the North Augusta property has been rented out to travelers through platforms like Airbnb<\/a> and Vrbo.<\/p>\n

During their, the Boykins enjoyed a brief vacation in their RV<\/a> for nine days.<\/p>\n

The Boykin family has gotten their mortgage paid for one year after renting out their South Carolina Home during the Masters tournament<\/p>\n

The five-bedroom, five-bathroom home is spacious and includes an outdoor space for entertainment.<\/p>\n

It’s also located just\u00a012 minutes away from the Augusta National Golf Club<\/a> in Georgia<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Boykin revealed she passes the club<\/a> when she drives her two children to school and that it’s usually not a big deal when the Masters isn’t happening.<\/p>\n

The family starts preparing for the Masters-themed rental every year in January.<\/p>\n

‘Once the Christmas lights get put away, it’s time to get ready,’ Boykin stated.<\/p>\n

Some of those duties include pressure washing the front of the house, landscaping, and deep cleaning.<\/p>\n

The Boykins then decorate their home with Masters-themed items like flags, pillows, and golf supplies with the tournament logo.<\/p>\n

‘My kids know which sheets are Masters ones. We don’t touch them,’ Boykin stated.<\/p>\n

The photographer posted a viral video\u00a0of her revamped home on TikTok<\/a>, which currently has 1.4 million views.<\/p>\n

The family put the finishing touches to the property<\/a> in the days before this year’s renters arrived on April 5.<\/p>\n

Boykin explained that everyone who stays at the house usually arrives the Sunday before the Masters and stays for eight days.<\/p>\n

While it’s rented out, the photographer likes to pop in for additional cleaning and to give her peace of mind.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

‘They’re not spending a lot of time in our home,’ Boykin said, adding that guests take care of their things better than they do.<\/p>\n

The family appeared to have nothing to worry about, and spent spring break in the RV with their dog and cat.<\/p>\n

One of their stops was at\u00a0a\u00a0local equestrian facility with walking trails.<\/p>\n

Following their trip, the family took down their Masters-themed items and prepared to send their children back to school.<\/p>\n

The Boykins are not the only ones who rent out their homes during the Masters in South Carolina.<\/p>\n

Properties similar to the Boykins’ house were available to rent for around $9,000 to $28,000 a week during the tournament<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Hundreds of Georgia homes are listed every year for guests looking for a place to stay during the event.<\/p>\n

Because of this, lawmakers were inspired to create the Augusta Rule, which allows homeowners to rent out their homes for up to 14 days a year without needing to report rental income on individual tax returns.<\/p>\n
