Luis Diaz<\/a> has reportedly made a key contract demand amid\u00a0Barcelona<\/a>‘s ongoing pursuit of the \u00a360m-rated Liverpool<\/a> winger this summer.<\/p>\n

The Colombian international has attracted interest from across Europe, with Barcelona and Bayern Munich<\/a> viewed as leading contenders if he was to leave Anfield.<\/p>\n

Diaz is also said to be the subject of interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n

According to Spanish newspaper AS<\/a>, Diaz’s agents have been in talks over a draft contract with Barcelona in the event a deal was agreed with Liverpool.<\/p>\n

Barcelona’s financial situation has reportedly been discussed in the talks, with the club having faced difficulties in registering\u00a0Dani Olmo and Pau Victor last season.<\/p>\n

After being given temporary licences to register the pair last summer, the registrations were revoked by LaLiga<\/a> during the January transfer<\/a> window.<\/p>\n

The Liverpool winger is claimed to be a favourite of Barcelona sporting director Deco<\/p>\n

Barcelona were temporarily granted permission to have the licences reinstated following an appeal, but the saga dragged on throughout the 2025-26 season.<\/p>\n

AS report that former Barcelona target Nico Williams, who eventually decided to stay at Athletic Club, had asked for a release clause in his contract.<\/p>\n

The clause would have allowed him to leave for free in the event Barcelona were unable to register him.<\/p>\n

The report claims Diaz has opted against a similar clause being inserted into a contract, but the Colombian is said to have demanded compensation in the event he cannot be registered by August 1.<\/p>\n

This would ensure Diaz remains at the club, but would be financially compensated if he was unable to play for a prolonged period of time.<\/p>\n

Despite Diaz reportedly being a favourite of Barcelona sporting director Deco, it remains unclear as to whether the club will accept his demand.<\/p>\n

Mail Sport reported earlier in July that Liverpool had rejected an approach from Bayern, telling director of sport Max Eberl that the 28-year-old would not be leaving Anfield.<\/p>\n

Diaz has insisted he is ‘very, very happy’ with the Reds, but that has not stopped him being linked with an array of sides.<\/p>\n

Liverpool have not offered an extension to his contract and with it running out in a couple of years, the onus is on them to make a call on his future.<\/p>\n

Diaz, who helped Liverpool win the Premier League last season, has two years left on his deal<\/p>\n

The versatile Diaz made 50 appearances across all competitions last season, scoring 17 goals and providing eight assists.<\/p>\n

He recently said: ‘I’m very, very happy in Liverpool. From day one, they’ve made me feel really welcome.<\/p>\n

‘Right now we’re in contact with them because we’re speaking with [other] clubs. It’s normal, the market is open, and we’re trying to sort out what’s best for us.<\/p>\n

‘I am just waiting to see what happens. If Liverpool doesn’t make a good offer, I still have two years left with them, I would be happy and content to stay there. And that’s it, everything depends on them obviously, it’s up to me to decide what’s best for us.’<\/p>\n

Diaz joined Liverpool from Porto in January 2022 for an initial fee of \u00a337.5m.<\/p>\n

He has gone on to be an important player, playing 148 times, and became the second Colombian player ever to win the Premier League after Juan Cuadrado did with Chelsea.<\/p>\n
