{"id":253267,"date":"2025-07-10T10:48:11","date_gmt":"2025-07-10T10:48:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/253267\/"},"modified":"2025-07-10T10:48:11","modified_gmt":"2025-07-10T10:48:11","slug":"itv-and-disney-strike-deal-to-stream-hit-shows-on-each-others-platforms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/253267\/","title":{"rendered":"ITV and Disney strike deal to stream hit shows on each other\u2019s platforms"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Unlock the Editor\u2019s Digest for free<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__content-sign-up-topic-description o3-type-body-base\">Roula Khalaf, Editor of the FT, selects her favourite stories in this weekly newsletter.<\/p>\n<p>Disney and ITV have struck a deal to show their programmes on each other\u2019s platforms for the first time in the latest sign of the fast-changing relationships between traditional European broadcasters and US streaming platforms.<\/p>\n<p>Under the terms of the agreement announced on Thursday, ITV will begin showing some of Disney\u2019s hit programmes, such as The Bear, while giving the US streamer some of its biggest shows, including Love Island, in a promotional grab for each other\u2019s audiences.\u00a0Viewers will be able to watch the shows on each service from July 16.<\/p>\n<p>Last month the Financial Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/4dc9accc-0024-46b6-bf33-a4125239e238\" data-trackable=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">revealed plans<\/a> by Netflix to show all of the channels broadcast by TF1 on its platform, in effect removing the need for audiences to use the French broadcaster\u2019s own streaming service.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>ITV, however, is relying on its streaming platform as a source of future growth. Traditional TV groups such as ITV are struggling with declining linear audiences and advertising revenues as more people watch TV online.<\/p>\n<p>The British broadcaster has so far sought to try to rival groups such as Disney and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/stream\/2fa688f8-97f0-4596-a705-822b4a5f9d6f\" data-trackable=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Netflix<\/a> directly, although lacks the resources to produce the big budget global content made by the US streamers. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Karl Holmes, general manager for Disney+ in Emea, said in an interview that the partnership would boost subscriptions and engagement for both platforms, given only a small overlap in their audience.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/https:\/\/d1e00ek4ebabms.cloudfront.net\/production\/ab354146-9be7-46af-a412-f8a173a2ecc5.jpg\" alt=\"Love Island\" data-image-type=\"image\" width=\"2103\" height=\"1402\" loading=\"lazy\"\/>ITV is set to provide Disney with selected seasons of the reality show \u2018Love Island\u2019 \u00a9 ITV<\/p>\n<p>He said that the Disney audience tended to skew younger \u2014 with a larger number of children and families, as well as viewers between 15 and 34 \u2014 while ITV\u2019s service had more viewers in the 55+ demographic.<\/p>\n<p>Disney will offer some of its more adult-orientated programmes such as Andor, The Bear and Only Murders in the Building to ITV\u2019s audience to encourage them to sign up to its platform.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt would not work if our demographics were the same,\u201d said Holmes, adding that this sort of arrangement was more attractive to free-to-air broadcasters that wanted to maintain their own streaming business than a wholesale deal to show all content.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/stream\/c739fda4-ba82-466e-9ff5-d4a939263b23\" data-trackable=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ITV<\/a> will provide Disney with hit shows including the award-winning drama Mr Bates vs The Post Office, espionage thriller A Spy Among Friends and selected seasons of the reality hit Love Island.<\/p>\n<p class=\"n-content-recommended__title o3-type-body-highlight\">Recommended<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/757a0e81-34f9-4944-9d6e-1360b8dc022c\" data-trackable=\"image-link\" data-trackable-context-story-link=\"image-link\" tabindex=\"-1\" aria-hidden=\"true\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"o-teaser__image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/https:\/\/www.ft.com\/__origami\/service\/image\/v2\/images\/raw\/https%3A%2F%2Fd1e00ek4ebabms.cloudfront.net.jpeg\" alt=\"BBC director-general Tim Davie and culture secretary Lisa Nandy\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Both companies will also be able to sell advertising on the programmes provided by their partner.
