{"id":254319,"date":"2025-07-10T19:57:14","date_gmt":"2025-07-10T19:57:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/254319\/"},"modified":"2025-07-10T19:57:14","modified_gmt":"2025-07-10T19:57:14","slug":"hill-head-urgent-do-not-swim-warning-due-to-pollution","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/254319\/","title":{"rendered":"Hill Head: Urgent &#8216;do not swim&#8217; warning due to pollution"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailyecho.co.uk\/news\/district\/fareham\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fareham<\/a> Borough Council confirmed that bathing water from Hill Head to Lee-on-the-Solent has been closed due to &#8220;sewage pollution&#8221;.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  A sewage pipe had burst\u00a0in the Salterns Road area of Hill Head on Tuesday evening.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;Do not swim, paddle, or enter the water until further notice,&#8221; a spokesperson for the council said.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The warning has been in place since\u00a09.52pm on Tuesday, the EA&#8217;s website said.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  A spokesperson for the agency confirmed to the Echo that pollution was &#8220;stopped&#8221; in the early hours of Wednesday morning.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <strong>READ MORE:\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyecho.co.uk\/news\/25294534.road-flooding-history-set-five-week-closure-upgrade\/?ref=ial\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Road with flooding history set for five-week closure for upgrade<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The EA&#8217;s officers had also been on site yesterday to monitor Southern Water&#8217;s progress with repairs to the sewer.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;As a precaution, we issued guidance against bathing at Lee on Solent,&#8221; the spokesperson said.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cToday we were on site to monitor Southern Water\u2019s progress with repairs. We will update Swimfo when bathing advice is lifted.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  A spokesperson for Southern Water said that they had received &#8220;reports of a leaking sewage in the Salterns Road area of Hill Head&#8221; on Tuesday evening, and &#8220;attended immediately to prevent any impact to the local <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailyecho.co.uk\/news\/campaigns\/greenwatch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">environment<\/a>&#8220;.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <strong>READ MORE:\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyecho.co.uk\/news\/25301011.extremely-rare-bird-prey-spotted-swooping-sky\/?ref=ial\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Extremely rare bird of prey spotted swooping through the sky<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The spokesperson continued: &#8220;We temporarily stopped flows through the problem pipe and used tankers to ensure customers could continue to use their toilets, sinks and showers, while repairs have been carried out.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;This work is ongoing, with traffic management in place.
