Danny Rohl is facing a revolt from disgruntled Sheffield Wednesday players over his return to the club, talkSPORT understands.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Several senior stars are understood to have held a meeting at which many declared they would prefer Rohl not to resume his role as boss having stayed away from the start of pre-season.<\/p>\n

Club legend Barry Bannan, who is still training with Wednesday despite his contract expiring, is understood to be an influential voice in opposition.<\/p>\n

talkSPORT revealed on Wednesday that Rohl was ready to come back to work<\/a> amid talk of a potential takeover of the financially-stricken Championship side.<\/p>\n

Rohl had previously told the Owls hierarchy he intended to quit with Leicester and Southampton among the clubs interested in his services.<\/p>\n

Assistant manager Henrik Pedersen has been overseeing training in Rohl’s absence and was believed to have been primed to step up to the top job.<\/p>\n

Pedersen agreed a new contract with the Owls last week as they stepped up preparations during a camp at St. George’s Park.<\/p>\n

The Danish coach told the club’s website: “When the opportunity presented itself and the chairman asked me to extend my current contract with the club, I didn\u2019t hesitate.<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s no secret that my family and I have fallen in love with this great club and also this wonderful city that has made us so welcome.<\/p>\n

“The fans are what carries a club through tough games, good times and bad. And our supporters are the best!<\/p>\n

“I\u2019m excited to continue my role at the club and getting back to work supporting the team and working with the great group of players we have. To the fans, I look forward to seeing you all again soon.”<\/p>\n

Rohl has been in charge at Hillsborough since October 2023 and has two years remaining on his deal.<\/p>\n

The German has been absent from pre-season training amid links with a move awayCredit: Rex<\/p>\n

After guiding the club to safety he achieved a 12th place finish in the Championship last term in his first full campaign as manager.<\/p>\n

However, the club are currently facing an uncertain future after being slapped with three transfer embargoes<\/a> by the EFL.<\/p>\n

Their latest sanction is due to the non-payment of transfer fees.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Wednesday had already been penalised for not paying player wages on time and late HMRC payments.<\/p>\n

As a result, the Owls were previously banned from paying fees for players for three transfer windows<\/a> on June 18.<\/p>\n

Those players who have not been paid on time are also now able to give a 15-day notice of the termination of their contracts.<\/p>\n

The situation could see Wednesday face a player exodus ahead of the upcoming campaign.<\/p>\n

Rohl’s side are scheduled to begin the Championship season away to Leicester on August 10.<\/p>\n
