The Quadrant in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/clifton\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Clifton<\/a> Village has been without working toilets for more than a month, since council contractors accidentally <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/news\/bristol-news\/quadrant-clifton-closed-after-council-10320169\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">drilled into the roof<\/a> of its underground bathrooms.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The independently owned bar on Princess Victoria Street has since been forced to rely on Portaloo toilets provided by the council, and said it has experienced a significant drop in custom.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Owner and manager Tom Rowell said the impact on the business had been \u201csevere\u201d. Although it is hoped the loss can eventually be recovered via insurance, that pay-out could come too late unless the pub can cover the shortfall in the meantime.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Mr Rowell has launched a <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/f\/help-keep-the-quadrant-open-a-message-from-tom\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Go Fund Me page<\/a> to try to keep the pub open, writing: &#8220;Independent hospitality businesses have faced immense challenges over the past decade\u2014first battling through the pandemic, and now navigating a relentless cost of living crisis. But recently, we\u2019ve been hit by a devastating and unexpected blow.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cWe\u2019ve done everything possible to keep the pub running, and we\u2019re incredibly grateful to our loyal customers for their patience and support during this time.&#8221; He said the council had admitted the mistake and promised to repair the damage, but had offered no time frame or emergency support.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The fundraising page added: &#8220;We simply cannot continue for more than a couple of weeks under these conditions. Bills, wages, and taxes still need to be paid\u2014and the company credit card isn&#8217;t bottomless.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;Although compensation is expected via the council\u2019s or their contractor\u2019s insurance, the process could take months. However, the council did not respond to a question asking how long it would take for the vital work to be completed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cWe sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused and are actively working with the business owner to rectify the situation as quickly as possible and with minimal disruption,\u201d councillor Ed Plowden said in a statement last week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cWe accept that we need to put it right and have provided two Portaloos on site for The Quadrant customers to use until the remedy works have been completed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">While he was confident The Quadrant would eventually recover their loss of earnings from the council, Mr Rowell said it might be too late by then. \u201cWe\u2019ve experienced a 30\u201350% drop in weekly sales\u2014far more than any small business can withstand.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cWith narrow margins and little financial cushion, even a 10% loss can be critical,\u201d he said. Mr Rowell, who has managed The Quadrant for 20 years, said the bar may only be able to survive for a couple of weeks without help.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">He is seeking \u00a320,000 via <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/f\/help-keep-the-quadrant-open-a-message-from-tom\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Go Fund Me<\/a> to keep the business going.
