Cops probing the murder<\/a> of Euan Johnston have found no gun and concluded their search for the weapon near a quarry in Oban nine years after the brutal gangland execution.<\/p>\n On Tuesday July 8, a team of detectives and specialist officers searched near the Soroba Road area of the town where a firearm<\/a> connected to the murder may have been situated.<\/p>\n The 26-year-old was shot in the head twice as he sat in his car at traffic lights on Scotland Street in Glasgow in 2016. The 33-year-old was jailed for a minimum of 22 years.<\/p>\n Images from the quarry scene showed uniformed officers<\/a> standing guard in front of a massive police cordon, where cops believed a firearm connected to the murder was.<\/p>\n Following the search<\/a> in Oban, police confirmed that no weapon had been recovered. Further enquiries are continuing and the investigation remains open.<\/p>\n A statement shared on their page read: “On Tuesday, 8 July, 2025, a team of detectives, specialist officers and national resources began searches near the Soroba Road area where a firearm connected to the murder may have been situated.<\/p>\n “Following this activity, we can confirm that no weapon has been recovered at this time. Further enquiries are continuing and the investigation remains open.”<\/p>\n Detective Superintendent Peter Sharp added: \u201cI\u2019d like to thank the public for their cooperation<\/a> during this activity and stress that we are continuing to appeal for any new information which may assist.<\/p>\n \u201cFrom our extensive enquiries, we know that more than one person was at the scene of Euan Johnston\u2019s murder and we are determined to bring those responsible to justice<\/a>.<\/p>\n “We are continuing the investigation<\/a> and if you have any information, no matter how insignificant, please come forward.<\/p>\n \u201cAny new information<\/a> we receive is taken seriously and will be thoroughly investigated.\u201d<\/p>\n Following extensive enquiries, officers say they know that more than one person was at the scene of the murder<\/a>.<\/p>\n The incident<\/a> was believed to be linked to organised crime and remains open as investigations have been continuing.<\/p>\n As the force were carrying out detailed searches for the firearm in a grass embankment area near the Soroba Road area in Oban, they also made an appeal<\/a> for any new information to get answers for Mr Johnston’s family.<\/p>\n Detective Superintendent Sharp said at the time: “As well as our searches<\/a>, I am appealing for anyone with information, and who may not have already spoken to us, to do so now.<\/p>\n “A significant amount of time has passed since Mr Johnston’s murder<\/a> and we understand that allegiances may have changed over the time.<\/p>\n “If you have any information, no matter how insignificant<\/a>, please come forward. “All new information will be taken seriously and thoroughly investigated.\u201d<\/p>\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/1747398730_254_0_WACOMMUNITYQR3.jpg\")
