The strict 100ml liquid rules were imposed in 2006 following a foiled terror plot to blow up planes with homemade liquid bombs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">This week, Edinburgh and Birmingham Airports were the latest to introduce the new scanners and have scrapped the 100ml liquid limit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">Never miss a story with the MEN&#8217;s daily Catch Up newsletter &#8211; get it in your inbox by signing up <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/newsletter-preference-centre\/?view=Solus&amp;mailingListId=b8052254-66af-41f3-9dae-7bbb0e3391c6&amp;utm_source=solusarticle\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"hereLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">But this has caused some confusion for passengers as the new rules are not universal &#8211; and they may find themselves caught out in their return journey.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/1_110816airport_03JPG.jpg\" alt=\"100ml limit on hand luggage liquids has been in force since 2006\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>100ml limit on hand luggage liquids has been in force since 2006(Image: Manchester Airport)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/news\/uk-news\/uk-tourists-should-follow-100ml-32015019?service=responsive\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Following the update at Edinburgh and Birmingham, Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander urged passengers to stick to the 100ml liquid rules unless their airport has said otherwise.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Ms Alexander told Times Radio: \u201cYou should work on the basis that it is 100ml at the moment unless you have heard from your airport otherwise.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cAnd I always advise people to check in with their airlines and their airports before travelling.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cAnd I\u2019m hopeful that we get to a point where all airports have this new technology in place soon so that everyone can have that extra added flexibility when they\u2019re travelling.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/manchester-airport\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Manchester Airport<\/a> has advised passengers to stick to this guidance.
