On a hot summer\u2019s day there\u2019s nothing like cooling off with a delicious ice cream. It\u2019s even better when enjoyed in beautiful surroundings.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s countless spots where you can obtain a scoop or two of the cold stuff across Greater Manchester, from waterside ice cream vans to Italian gelato kiosks.<\/p>\n

Over in Wigan<\/a>\u2019s Mesnes Park is Frederick\u2019s ice cream parlour, housed in the spectacular pavilion.<\/p>\n

Family-run Frederick\u2019s have been making ice cream for generations and operate three sites Chorley and Wigan.<\/p>\n

The Mesnes Park parlour has a huge range of flavours to choose from – 18 in total – from classics like vanilla and chocolate to more modern flavours which change around but can include cookie dough and lemon curd.<\/p>\n

As well as ice creams, Fredericks also sell other sweet treats, snacks and drinks so there\u2019s something for everyone.<\/p>\n

But as temperatures are set to reach 30C in Greater Manchester over the coming days, it\u2019s likely ice cream will be the most popular among visitors.<\/p>\n

According to the latest forecast from the Met Office, we can expect scorching temperatures across the weekend, with highs of 30C expected on Saturday and 28C on Sunday, along with lots of sunshine.<\/p>\n

Once you\u2019ve secured your ice cream, enjoy a wander around Mesnes Park, a beautiful 28-acre park which dates back to 1878.<\/p>\n

It has vast sweeping lawns, wide paths and colourful flower beds. The park has several historical features including the ornate Colebrookdale Fountain (a replica of the original) which stands in front of the pavilion, and a bandstand.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s an outdoor gym – although you may want to give that a miss in this heat – and two playgrounds for kids.<\/p>\n

The park is also home to a large duck pond and a rockery with a waterfall feature. Dotted throughout the park are benches where you can sit back and relax in the sun.<\/p>\n

Frederick\u2019s at the Pavilion is open daily from 9am to 5pm.<\/p>\n
