A funeral was held for a popular nightclub – with a coffin being carried around to mark its closure.<\/p>\n
Dressed all in black, mourners threw flowers on a coffin as it was carried around Motion, in Bristol, before a eulogy was read by a ‘priest’.<\/p>\n
Motion’s final day after 20 years is on July 19 with The Last Dance, a “final rave for the ages” from Just Jack, due to take place from 6pm to 6am.<\/p>\n
Organisers behind the funeral wanted to give Motion “the send-off it deserves”, saying that Bristol “is losing an icon”.<\/p>\n
The plan was to “mourn, celebrate and say goodbye to one of the UK’s most legendary venues”.<\/p>\n

‘Save UK nightlife’ read one banner held up by one of the mourners while another one said ‘Not another one!?’<\/p>\n
In a dog collar, the priest said that they were gathered on Thursday evening “not in sorrow but in celebration”.<\/p>\n
“Today, we lay to rest not just four walls in a warehouse but an icon…<\/p>\n
“But Motion’s death isn’t an isolated tragedy. It’s part of a bigger crisis… flats rising where dancefloors once stood.”<\/p>\n
He added: “Clubs aren’t dying from a lack of love. They are dying from being priced out and pushed out in a system that no longer values the spaces that bring us together.”<\/p>\n
The owners of Motion said previously they have “done everything we could to change the outcome” including submitting a bid to buy the site.<\/p>\n
“But despite doing everything right, it’s become increasingly clear: we will not be open past July.<\/p>\n

An ambitious campaign has now been launched to secure Motion’s future which hopes to raise \u00a3250,000 to secure a permanent home for Motion and its sister venue, Marble Factory.<\/p>\n
