{"id":257066,"date":"2025-07-11T20:24:11","date_gmt":"2025-07-11T20:24:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/257066\/"},"modified":"2025-07-11T20:24:11","modified_gmt":"2025-07-11T20:24:11","slug":"dutch-reporter-shares-what-hes-heard-about-gustavo-hamer-leaving-sheffield-united-for-psv","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/257066\/","title":{"rendered":"Dutch reporter shares what he&#8217;s heard about Gustavo Hamer leaving Sheffield United for PSV"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>While Premier League trio Leeds, Brentford and Fulham are already in the mix, a new suitor emerged for Sheffield United talisman Gustavo Hamer on Friday; Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In truth, it is somewhat surprising that Hamer remains a <a href=\"https:\/\/eflanalysis.com\/tag\/sheffield-united\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sheffield United<\/a> player, less than a month out from The Blades\u2019 Championship opener at home to Bristol City.<\/p>\n<p>While <strong>EFL Analysis <\/strong>have been informed that <a href=\"https:\/\/eflanalysis.com\/transfers\/gustavo-hamer-has-huge-admirers-in-premier-league-as-sheffield-united-accept-inevitable-exit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Leeds remain keen admirers of Gus Hamer<\/a>, alongside London duo Brentford and Fulham, a bidding war anticipated by many observers is yet to get going.<\/p>\n<p>There is still time for that to change, however.<\/p>\n<p>New Sheffield United boss Ruben Selles believes that Hamer is \u2018happy\u2019 with life at Bramall Lane despite the sting of that play-off final defeat to Sunderland at the start of the summer.<\/p>\n<p>Reported interest from PSV Eindhoven, however, may test the loyalty of a Brazil-born playmaker who started his professional career in the Netherlands with Feyenoord.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/eflanalysis.com\/opinion\/latest-vini-souza-update-means-that-sheffield-united-must-change-direction-one-thing-will-set-them-up-for-failure\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sheffield United lost Vinicius Souza to Wolfsburg<\/a> earlier this month, though <a href=\"https:\/\/eflanalysis.com\/tag\/gustavo-hamer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gustavo Hamer<\/a> is the man the Blades would have been hoping to keep at all costs. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/GettyImages-2214869915-1-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Gustavo Hamer during Sheffield United v Bristol City - Sky Bet Championship Play-Off Semi Final Second Leg\" class=\"wp-image-31988\" \/>Photo by James Gill \u2013 Danehouse\/Getty ImagesDutch reporter talks up Gustavo Hamer PSV Eindoven links as Sheffield United pray<\/p>\n<p>Hamer was named the Championship\u2019s Player of the Year for 2024\/25, while his ability to grab a game by the proverbial scruff of the neck and create something out of nothing turned many average performances into points.<\/p>\n<p>EFL Analysis can confirm that <a href=\"https:\/\/eflanalysis.com\/transfers\/gustavo-hamer-has-huge-admirers-in-premier-league-as-sheffield-united-accept-inevitable-exit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sheffield United wanted \u00a318 million<\/a> last summer, when second-tier rivals Leeds saw a \u00a313 million bid booted away.<\/p>\n<p>Dutch reporter Rik Elfrink believes that the Yorkshire giants may be willing to accept closer to \u00a310 million these days, however, with only two years left on Hamer\u2019s contract.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Elfrink, who works for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ed.nl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Eindhovens Dagblad<\/a> newspaper and specialises in all things PSV, issued a fresh response on Friday when suggestions of a return to the Netherlands reared their head again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEnglish media are now also reporting on Gustavo Hamer,\u201d Elfrink wrote on <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RikElfrink\/status\/1943626258144714885\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">X<\/a>. \u201cHe\u2019s been in the waiting room at PSV for a while, as they\u2019re looking to strengthen their midfield.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hamer is not, however, PSV\u2019s only target. Peter Bosz\u2019s team are also looking at Sven Mijnans of AZ Alkmaar. <\/p>\n<p>Ruben Selles praises Hamer\u2019s performances after summer break<\/p>\n<p>PSV, who snatched the Eredivisie title from under the noses of Ajax on the final day of 2024\/25, have money to spend and an attacking midfield role to fill.<\/p>\n<p>USA schemer Malik Tillman left the Philips Stadium while completing a \u00a335 million move to Bayer Leverkusen recently.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat I can say about Gustavo is that he\u2019s trained really hard,\u201d Selles said when asked to provide an update on Hamer, who really made his name in Holland with PEC Zwolle, this week. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s come back [from the summer break] in good shape, he\u2019s done everything we\u2019ve wanted him to do and he\u2019s a vital player for us.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we can, we need to try and keep him and I think he\u2019s happy where he is. Hopefully, he\u2019ll keep playing for us. He has been outstanding in terms of his character and behaviour, so nothing suggests to me that he will change.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cObviously you can never say never because football is football and sometimes there are things that you cannot control.
